Poly suspension bushes

Post by ian65 »

Many, if not most 1st gens are still running around on their original factory rubber bushes which after 26 years+ of being underneath the car, are often hard, brittle and cracked.

Mine certainly were and I did a lot of research to find new bushes. I decided to fit poly bushes but both from within the UK and from overseas, they were very expensive and most of the kits I found, although described as ‘full car kits’, actually had parts missing which meant spending more money to complete the job.

I eventually decided on a full car kit from ReSpeed in the USA...

The kit is $160 and shipping was quoted at $50 but as SteveA also wanted a set, we got Billy at ReSpeed to ship 2 kits together and we shared the shipping costs and import duty.
Each kit worked out at £140 delivered. The delivery was 5 or 6 weeks... I don’t know if this is typical but as neither of us were in a rush for them, it wasn’t really an issue.

I’m very impressed with the quality of this kit... it’s excellent. It is also comprehensive and includes all crush tubes and anti roll bar drop links.... everything you need for the whole car, front and back.

The only surprise was that the lube included in the kit is the stuff from hell to work with. I imagined it would be a bit like car shampoo or soap but this stuff is like tree resin. It gets everywhere and sticks to everything as well.
Horrible but I suppose it does the job.
At least with poly bushes, once the job is done, that’s it..... forever!

I too needed to replace my bushes on 'Goldie' but decided to go the UK supplier route - Superpro Europe Limited.
Cost was £215 with a next day delivery. Each individual set came complete with its' own grease pack (white in colour) and was really efficient but readliy removeable after application and assembly.
On the down side I had to re-use the crush tubes from the Watts Links link connections - I decided to have stainless steel units machined instead of re-using old tubing. Also I had to buy the rear anti-roll bar drop links and bolts seperately from Mazda @ £40.
Regardless of this I considered this to be an excellent deal overall.
Rear section of 'Goldie' is now complete.

Why Choose SuperPro Polyurethane?

SuperPro polyurethane suspension bushes are engineered like no other. They provide outstanding performance and keep components working as the manufacturer intended.

More responsive steering, greater control, improved initial turn-in and better stability are just some of the benefits that have been attributed to SuperPro bushes - all without the harshness often associated with some manufacturer's polyurethane products. This is achieved through SuperPro's unique materials technology, industry-leading engineering, development and rigorous testing.

Added to this, the low-maintenance feature of its products, increased life of adjoining components and improved tyre-wear, means that SuperPro bushes represent excellent value for money. And, as if that wasn't enough, each product is backed-up with the company's unique three-year/36,000-mile warranty.
•Improved handling and stability
•Reduced rear tyre wear
•Fits existing suspension arms without modification
•No increase in vibration and Road noise

Just came to order these from Re-Speed, and they want $165 for postage for 1 set! ($253 for two sets).

This compares fairly badly with the $160 to buy the bushes themselves.

Convert dollars at 1.50 to the Pound, add the foriegn currency fee on my credit card (2%) plus VAT (20% on parts) plus DHL handling of the customs/VAT (£18 last time...) and they come out at about £285 for a set, £245 each for two sets.

That is a lot of money!

Steve / Ian, how much did yours come out at?

I suppose it is still better than SuperPro at £248 plus the drop arms etc. (which you would need...) but not looking as much of a bargain as I had hoped....

John :(
