1st gen registration numbers

Seen a 1st gen RX7 driving, parked up or for sale somewhere... post the details here...

AHP 71S, the first car on your list, was imported by BL from the US in 1978. They did some evaluation tests on it & then sold it to me in the summer of 1979. It was fun to be driving an RX-7 before the UK car was available.
It differed from UK spec, no rear spoiler, no rear 'seats' and I think it had a 323 rear axle with drum brakes and steel wheels.
I sold it at Measham Auction for about £3,000 in 1980.

i collect the vin plates off any RX-7 (or other rotary vehicle) i come across at our wrecking yards. Not sure how you feel about US vins though. Maybe a seperate global register?

I find holding a British Isles register with constantly changing ownership is enough for me. Only about 250/300 cars still alive here, series 1, 2 and 3, (plus maybe the same number of scrapped ones on my register), but that's a fair old task to keep updating.

It would be nice to have a Global database if someone wants to do it but hey, the US one will be massive on it's own don't you think?

Here it's really a question of registration number, colour, date registered, date first spotted, date last seen, present miles if known,rough location, owner, VIN if known, special details of car if any and finally a brief history log.
I find Excel works a treat, 1 long row does all the above for each car and the full file doesn't seem to need much in the way of memory.

Then I compile a further sheet showing the rough locations in the country. That's the only one I ever upload to the net 'cos then there's no data protection information problems. ( they're red hot on data protection here).

A global index of vins is a great idea and we've discussed something similar in the past. Vins are the best way to record cars ....... unfortunately, people in the UK, believing too much negative press, are very reluctant to give out the vin of their FB, even if they are unable to explain why. It's bizarre but it's as if you're asking for their DNA sample.
One of the best classic car databases out there is this one which is based on vins...

The guy who designed this did say he'd give me a copy of the program if i wanted to use it for rx7's but as usual, life got in the way and I didn't pursue it.

if i could get my hands on that software, i would consider hosting an Rx7 register. I already have the space.

One of the earliest, if not the very first, UK cars was GGO 1T and was owned by a celebrity (can't recall who - sorry) down near Tunbridge Wells in Kent. I also owned FTH 1W & C984 DKP, which aren't on the list.

Aye 'tis on my big list. In my 'Probable Scrappers' pile of car numbers. It was up for sale, spares or repair, last December. 'Tis Red in colour.

(Of the 3 above from Mark-e21, I had GGO and FTH but not C984 DKP. All 3 fully entered up now though).

do u know if this was a genuine janspeed turbo fb? & did a forum member own it, or anyone know the history of it??

Mazda Rx7 for sale for either parts or restoration if your feeling brave :-)

The car has spent the last 8 years of its life sat in a field and its in pretty poor shape as you can see from the photos, rusted panels, interior damp but will clean up
Headlamps in boot and bonnet not bolted on. Bumper missing.

I have managed to get her running albeit on easy start down the carb just to confirm the engine is good. it runs nice and was told by the previous owner
that it had undergone an engine rebuild prior to it being parked up. Have checked dipped the oil and it look clean. but no receipts to back this up nor do I have the
V5 yet, I have been assured that there is paperwork with car he is just going through a house move at the moment and needs digging out.

at some point in her life it has been to Janspeed and been tuned, from what I can see and the photos it has a bigger turbo fitted along with associated parts
intercooler (although damaged) exhaust ect

It would be a shame to see the vehicle go to the scrapyard although if no interest thats where she shall be heading.

Perfect for spares if you have one of these. what you see is what you get
