Fog light conversion

Pins correct and also small enough to fit thru the existing reverse lamp aperture.

I tried a fancy 24 led bulb but the head was too large and I didn't fancy performing a c-section just to make a bulb fit.

So the pins are 180 degree then?

Have you got a pic of it on - maybe compared to the reverse light?

I’ve been doing some tail lamp mods but have had some issues so not quite finished yet.

I already have the swap from reverse lamp to red bulb and re pin to a fog lamp mod on the driver’s side.

I want to replicate how the JDM/USDM cars are with dual filament bulbs in both the inner positions for stop/taillights rather than the UK spec lamps with separate single filament bulbs in each position, and I also want to have 2x reverse lights still, and add fog lamps.

So, I planned to change to:
• Inner position: twin filament bulb for reverse and fog using these LED bulbs https://www.classiccarleds.co.uk/produc ... llb380-380
• Inner middle pos: twin filament bulb for stop/taillight.
• Outer middle pos: twin filament bulb for stop/taillight.
• Outer: single filament bulb for indicators.

I made new taillight looms at home, without the car handy for reference but I had a spare (cracked lens) taillight for reference.

As I was changing most of the bulb holders, I thought I’d make the taillight looms from scratch. I already had some factory style multi way connectors from doing the race car wiring, although the ones I have don’t have the lugs on which screw to the tail lamp molding. I bought all new bulb holders.

The stock tail lamp wiring uses a 6-way connector, with an empty slot, so I thought this would be ideal I could just use the empty position to add the fogs.

So, I wired up the new bulb holders to the 6-way connectors.
1. Earth
2. Indicator
3. Stop
4. Tail
5. Reverse
6. Fog

I went to the car last night and when fitting the new taillight looms, I realised that the car side of the wiring loom uses all six of the pin positions. Can anyone tell me what the red wire (can’t remember what colour tracer) adjacent to the earth pin is in the car side of the wiring loom? I thought as it does not have a corresponding pin on the taillamp side, it would be ok to de pin it, and put some heat shrink over to insulate it and leave it out of the connector. Maybe this wire is used in other markets, and is actually set up for dual filament type bulbs?

I then jumped the fog lamp wire (blue wire with green trace) into the now empty pin next to the earth pin.

I connected it all up, and the reverse/fog lamps work, indicators work, but I’m having an issue with the stop/taillights, if I have the taillights on, it works, if I press the brake, the driver’s side taillights go out, rather than the brake lights coming on. Might be an issue on the earth on one of the bulb holders, or something I haven’t yet worked out!

Keith did this mod to his red 1st gen but I remember him using a relay. It might be worth dropping him a message on Facebook, I don't think he gets onto this forum anymore.

You'd need a relay if you had a plain white bulb, single filament for the reverse position and wanted the middle positions to be dual filament, brake and tail lamp, and on one side brake or fog and tail lamp, with the relay switching between fog and brake. Maybe that's what he did? I was going to do this, I bought the relays, but then found the dual white/red LEDs and thought that was even easier.

I sourced a couple of double pole bulb holders from eBay, switched them out with the single sidelight ones and switched the stop to the double pole and wired the stop position as the fogs.
I’m sure i listed the bulb holders in my car restoration post.

Yeah I've got more or less the same but the bulb holders I found look more like the mazda ones, they don't have an O ring on. Same otherwise. Not sure why there's an unused pin on the car side of the tail lamp 6 way connector, or why my lamps aren't working!

Car is reversed into the garage while I sort out the front end, I can get some pics of the loom when I turn it around if you need them mate ?

Forgot to update this at the time but I sorted the issue I was having. The bulb holders I got just didn't earth properly, as I suspected, So I modified them and soldered an earth wire to each bulb holder and fed through the plastic cup part. The Car side of the wiring just needed one wire de pinned and replaced with the fog lamp.

can't see what I modified but here's the looms.




Also the soldering on the fog switch failed, so I fixed that.
