Post by dajedicc27 »

is there any mod out there to use one window wiper in the middle like some of the road course cars never seen it on a seven before?

Not really a great idea. The wipers are only just adequate with 2 without removing one!

I'd leave that mod to the corsas, puntos and 106s in dtm wannabe drag ;)

I agree that a single wiper isn't a good idea. The OEMs have to satisfy regulations that require the wipers to "sweep" a minimum percentage of the total windshield area, and drivers generally want all the glass in their line of sight cleared. Single wipers typically can't do it, which is one reason cars generally have two. There were a few Mercedes cars that had a single wiper, but it required an intricate articulated motion to sweep enough of the windshield to pass the minimum sweep requirement and the line of sight desire. That Mercedes single wiper system is probably more expensive than twin wipers (although you would probably save a little on wiper blades). Also, a single wiper is probably a lot less annoying if you sit in the middle of the car (like in prototypes), since the unswept areas in the upper corners aren't in the direct line of sight.

The wiper unit from the Mercedes 190 would be the better option if you are still considering this - the cam motion making the central sweep giving the extra lateral dimension. Only comment I would say is that a single blade mechanism would have to be more robust than the standard twin blades.
