Hi, i'm Terri :)

Post by gixergirl777 »

Hi, i'm Terri, I live in West Sussex, UK but am originally from Essex.

My FB is a sunburst red 1984 1st Gen - B677AOG, I've had her for many years, she did her first track day with me at Silverstone 3 weeks before I even passed my driving test!

I bought her back in 1997 from a scrap yard, she was immaculate and in really good condition other than some damage to the front end which my Dad and I repaired as a little project. Dad was Terry Mayne and he'd been racing and tuning rotary Mazdas since the 70's, nearly all of my family had rotaries over the years including RX2, RX3, RX4 so it was no surprise when I got into them as well. We overhauled the brakes, radiator, made a whole new exhaust system and did some cosmetic tidying too. I was involved with the Mazda RX OC back in the day, used to do a lot of shows and organise the annual Le Mans trip for a while...

Back in about 2000, she dropped a tip and I took her down to RX Motors to have a 13B fitted instead of the 12A and a Janspeed exhaust. For various reasons - long story - I've only just picked her up in February 2013! But i'm so glad to have her back again. She's been left standing for some time so I need to do a bit of work on the rust (the roof and boot mainly where the drains have got blocked), the old crash repair is starting to look a bit second hand and the paint colour has gone a bit pink and inconsistent but she's still a dream. Tick over is too low at the moment and she stalls if you're not on the ball but i'm hoping this will be a quick fix by adjusting the idle, she runs on song at about 80-90mph though (not that I've tried, of course...;)

I am debating whether to sell her on to someone with more time than I have, but at the moment I am really just enjoying the experience! I've had a few RX7s over the years, a Turbo II, Turbo II cabriolet and 2 x first gens but this one is my favourite and the one with the best memories.

Anyway, nice to be here and hope to bump into some of you online :)

Hi, Terri. Welcome to the forum. I'm in West Sussex too, not seen any red ones around these parts :? Judging by your username you have an interest in Suzuki's most enduring sportsbike as well?

Hi Terri.
I've still got your article from 1998 'Living With My RX7' so B677 has been noted as a red series 3 for more than 15 years! Last spotted in Tim's yard 2012 by Chud on here.

Here endeth the history lesson, so many welcomes indeed and thanks for posting.

My wife owns her Silver S3 RX7 but I post on the Forum. You and she seem to be the only lady representation on here.

Ah so the car is already infamous! ... and Codge, it sounds like you already have the story of the early days! Yes, Tim and I originally spoke of a 6 week turnaround, it ended up being 13 years or so but glad to have her back...

And Lucky, i'm in Horsham so perhaps you might see me round that way, and yes, spot on with the bike too.

Hi Terri, yeah I spotted her there a while back - did notice she'd gone when I went there last.

Welcome anyway.

Hi mate and welcome.
I know this is a first gen forum but I'm keen to hear about the RX2s, 3s and 4s. Are you able to upload any pics?
Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......

Ah i'm nervous now! I was only about 17 or 18 and living in Essex when I wrote that, it's probably rather awful lol! Might be good to have a giggle/read though :)

Just getting familiar with the site and will post some pics soon.

Have got the car cleaned up a bit since extracting her from Tim's yard!

Welcome :)

I'm not far from you (near Eastbourne) so if you're over this way, pop in for a cuppa :)

Give us a day or two to locate it again.

You seem to be OK with that Terri but shout if you are not. A good harmless 'little' article as I recall.
