Hello from March Cambs UK

Post by typer andy »

Hi everyone

Just introducing myself. Im Andy.
ive signed up here as ive been offered a 1985 Gen 1 for a bargain price so i thought id better do some research.

I owned a fd3 a few years ago and got hooked on the rotary engine even with all its querks and it nearly financially crippling me. Im hoping this one will be just as fun if a little bit slower haha

Hey, Andy. Speaking as an FD owner who's recently come to FB ownership, I can assure you I find both equally fun to drive, though clearly in different ways. Yeah, the first gen has a good deal less horsepowers (around 330 in my particular case, lol) but so long as you don't expect it to be something it's not then it's a perfectly fun car to cane about. In fact, I find it more fun in some ways because I can drive it nearer to my own abilities and those of the road to contain it. If I tried to put the FD to the upper end of it's performance envelope in the same way I'd either be inside or dead

Anyway, all you need to know about buying one is here somewhere, best of luck. Put some details of the one you've been offered up here, odds are someone may well know it anyway

Its been tucked away for years, the guy whos selling has had it for about 19 years

The brakes are siezed, exhaust is blowing and there is apparently rust on a seatbelt anchor point but ive searched for it and cant find a thing. But it all seems tidy apart from that.

Im still waiting on hearing it start as ive not seen it running yet. Im hoping its going to sound good if not its staying where it is.

OK, well I'm sure Dave (Codge ) will be asking you for some details for his register soon then  Good luck with it, they seem remarkably good at starting even after massive lay-ups so that isn't necessarily the end-all of it. If you haven't already check out this section for guides on what to look for viewforum.php?f=15

And relax, even the most expensive FB is cheaper than the cheapest FD to run, lol

Hi Andy sounds good, there is plenty of advice on here and other forums about buying, pull up the rear seats and look for rust in the rear aches dont panic if you see a patch there as most have rusted and been repaired! if it falls though or you want a car that's 'ready to go' my gen 1 is for sale 0-0

If you give us a Reg No. I can see straight away if it's on the register or not.

Failing that, you know whereabouts it is......have a look on the location list (in Spotter's Corner on here)and see if there's a match for a black series 3.

Hope to be able to help.

Codge.

Yay another fb near me I'm in Littleport now but was living in Manea just out side of march, welcome.
The rust will most likely be under the rear seat/carpet that covers the rear wheel well by the back seat.
