Hi everybody!
My names Jason, and I'm currently in possession of this Elford (non-turbo) 1984 Series 2 Rx7. It does have a few cosmetic issues but I'm hoping to patch it up and give it some much needed TLC. My main reason for getting one was my father who also owns a black Elford Turbo, as a kid I just fell in love with the car and alway's wanted to get one of my own.
I just thought I'd join the forum as a good place to seek advice, learn, read and ofc 'ave a browse at all the other cars!
Hi Jason,
welcome to the forum, glad you've joined up.
We've seen your car before.... it's featured in the Elford Gallery and there are also posts about it in the 'Spotted thread' from when it was for sale by Tim at RX Motors.
It looks very nice, especially with the full Elford body kit. I often wondered if the car was ever fitted with a turbo or was it supplied soley with the bodykit. Everything was on a menu system from Elfords so some cars had the turbo but no bodykit whereas others has the bodykit but no turbo engine.... can you shed any light on it?
Owwww really? I kinda like the rear fogs .... Is that a sin round here?
Tim was actually the guy I got it from, I think I remember seeing a few pictures of it on here when it was on ebay, managed to snap it up though. It's a lovely car to drive but it's not without it's faults, mainly minor cosmetic issues small surface rusting on the sunroof but shouldn't be to difficult to get on top of.... hopefully. It also has a small starting issue (I know they can be temperamental) but all in all it's in pretty good shape, great interior and now I've got a bit more money to spend on it to have these things ironed out. I'll be honest and hold my hands up and say I'm not the most technically/mechanically minded individual in the world but I've been reading up about rotaries and getting my Rx7 fill for a while now! I adore the car though and I'm trying to get it tip top after it's been off the road for sometime.
On the Elford front I can't say I know to be honest, I'll do some digging thats rather interesting.
Starting issues on more powerful rotaries are often either lost compression or early water seal failure, but I'm honestly not sure if that's the same for FBs. There are more variables, especially with a carburetted setup as well, could be as simple as gummy jets from being stood.
Certainly a lovely-looking car you have there, and no, if you like the fog lights then of course it's not a sin, it's your car! Old Uncle Timmy's a bit of a legend, isn't he
Well Tim is only up the road really so it's more than likely I'll be getting in touch with him anyhow at some point soon to get that sorted. It starts but can make a loud 'WHHIIIIRRRRrrrrrrrrrr *click*....' when you turn the key, like something spinning and then stopping. It's probably something really obvious and I'm just being a bit thick but when it starts it runs absolutely fine.
Thanks for your input though guys, glad you like the car!

Welcome again,
Ian
It was a turbo but Tim at RX Motors put an N/A motor in it.
Best of all worlds there Jase......you can tootle along steady with a standard 12A engine like me, saving fuel. But the plebs on the pavement think it's still a full Elford. OOerr....can I still use that word?
Greetings from codge (Dave).
Really would like some pointers on your da's Black Elford for my register.
