happy new year from newbie!

Post by billy964 »

hi all

started looking an gen1 rx7's... got to a certain age and recall my brother having a red one many many years ago.. sentimental trade!! im a porsche guy at heart but am interested in all sorts of classic cars and i think the 70's and 80's are just coming into their own..

i guess engines and rot are the obvious worries? what should i be paying for a really nice gen1 ?

cheers

Hi,
welcome to the forum.
As with any old car, body corrosion is the main concern, there's a guide here....

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=36

mechanicals are simple and cheap enough to replace, engines are also cheap to come by and easy to swap. There are more rough/scrap RX7's about than mint cars and it's usually rust that kills them off rather than engine failure.

As a general guide:

Project without mot - up to £500
Rolling resto - £500 to £1000
Good condition 2 car - £1000 - £2000
Excellent condition 1 car - £2000 +
MInt condition show car - £3000+

cars in the last catagory hardly ever come onto the market. Obviously, prices can vary enormously based on each particular cars spec, history, condition, modifications, not to mention some sellers ludicrous valuations.

Have a look through the 'spotters corner' section of the forum .... nearly all 1st gens for sale in the UK are flagged up in there so it'll give you a good idea of the prices they are fetching. Prices are very low and won't be going up for a while, if ever IMO
