Howdy Folks! So Cal guy here

Post by Rotary-MG »

I sort of stumbled on to this site by accident.
I am a supporter for what this site is trying to do for the 1st Gen RX7s.
So here I am to join into the fun.

My '85 RX7 GS has been a part of my life since the early 90s'. The original owner bought it for a few thousand dollars over MSRP. Fresh out of the university, I bought her for $3000 when all my peers went out and bought new cars. I have never owned a new car, btw. I kept her totally stock just up until recently. It now sports complete RacingBeat suspension and exhaust kits. Installed the rear axle from a GSL to get LSD and rear disks. Partially removed the interior to save weight. I'm about to buy a set of 15X7 Konig Rewinds and Nitto competition tires. I'm a total beginner going to open track day events, and I have much to learn. The other weekend my Sumitomo HTR200 tires losts grip after heating up by the 4th lap around the Streets of Willow. It was like having the idiot switch flipped suddenly. Lost so much traction, I spun out twice and really couldn't hold my own even against much heavier cars. Race and learn.

My other rotary is a 13B that is sitting in my '65 MG Midget project car. The project stalled out a few years ago. I'm hoping that my current rotary buzz will inspire me to start working on her again.

I hope this works. Trying to insert an image for me and my brown RX7 at Streets of Willow.
It's a very tight technical track. Lots of turns, well suited for smaller cars (it you have the right tires).
Currently riding on 205/60-13 on stock wheels. Soon to change...

After the racing, I took a joy ride through the mountain passes to get home without a problem. Never had a problem with these tire for spirited street driving. But street drive doesn't come close to the abuse found on a race track.

lol, LSD required for lap time upgrade 8-) Cool pics. That's a lovely colour, great-looking car :D

What flavour MG-midget do you have? Is it the one like an MG-B only shrunk a bit, or the early, running boards and massive fender TA type of one?

My Midget is like the 'shrunk' MGB. Chrome bumpers and square rear wheel arches. It's going to be a challenge to fit sufficient rubber under those wheel arches. I'm trying to design her so that I can fit plus size wire wheels AND mini-lite style aluminum rims for track days, WHILE keeping the outer sheet metal stock. Too much to ask, but I'm determined to have my way with her. My goal is to get a supercharged / streetported / 4-port 13B with +250hp in her. 5x stock hp means I've had to upgrade everything. Oh, yes, and trying to keep her weight as close to 1100 lbs as possible (500 kg).

I mention this Midget on a 1st gen RX7 board because she has all 1st gen RX7 running gear.
Plus she keeps my '85 RX7 company.

Hi there,
welcome to the fb forum... a nice looking 1st gen you have there..... nice to see it on the track too.
We've just set up a section on the forum for our 'other cars' that may not be 1st gen RX7's but we'd still like to read about.

viewforum.php?f=55

If you'd like to start a thread on there about your Midget, we'd love to see it.

cheers,
Ian
