Red Elford Series 2

Post by MelloYello »

A couple of months back I donned my finest rose spectacles to view this red vixen- hard to resist a lady in red.

Image

I could tell there were a few problems hidden under that awful paint job, and it seemed a bit scabby, but thought it seemed solid enough and it had all the Elford goodies. Add to that my want to nurture it back to its former glory. Oh and the rose tinted glasses.

So when i finally got it back to my garage i decided to strip it to see what i was dealing with.

Oh :(

Going to carry on with the strip down (salvage). Engine runs but it need of a good tune, so will have a play with that also.

Ouch! That's some pretty heavy tin worm :( I'd put money on the front sills/floors & chassis rails by the steering box and idler arm being well gone too looking at the state of the rear of the car.

So before you found all the rust, what was the plan? and has it changed?

the bloke on Exile that owned it reckoned it had an MOT last year..... I'd send VOSA round to the testing station if it had..... there's no way it should pass with that sort of rot and that hasn't happened in the last 12 months

Quick, glue those spats back on, they should keep it together for another MOT

Wow man, gutted it was such a disappointment for you with all the tin worm. I am restoring an SA and to be honest I just keep finding rust at the mo so Steve might be right hey, there may be more. Sorry about that.
What are the plans for it? Or are you going to strip her down some more then make a decision? I hope thats the last of the rust for you.

Dam right Ian, I can't see that being an M.O.T passer 12 months ago unless he parked it in a salt bath!

Yeah it did pass an MOT  i think someone owed someone a favour ;)

Will continue with the stripping, I have everything out except for the dash. But this looks like it will be a parts car.

Some people have already put in requests for parts. So if there is anything you need then please PM me and i will put you on the list.

The engine is a runner, but needs a tuning. Will be playing around under the bonnet next.

it has been entertaining pulling it apart

Have been pulling bits off the red elford - the front and rear spoilers were attached without the thought that they might need to be removed.

Pics of what it looks like at the moment, a bit sad but it is too rusty. I went to jack it up on the chassis rail the other day and it bent in half :?
