Emissions Failure MOT

Hi Guys
I was just checking the DVLA mot history site and I looked at the mot history for my car from its last test.
It was originally noted as a fail for the following reason

"Exhaust carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle exceeds manufacturer's specified limits (8.2.1.2 (a))"

I thought our cars were exempt from this part of the MOT or am I mistaken?
It passed the test after a minor adjustment but this is the only blemish on its MOT history .
If it was failed mistakenly can this be corrected with the DVLA?

Thanks

They are exempt and it’s been tested by a tester who doesn’t realise or understand this. They are subject to a visual check for smoke only

Thanks Ian,
I thought you would come up with the definitive answer.
I suppose the only issue is can I get it reversed.
Cheers
