Daytona 24 Hrs 1981

Does anyone subscribe to Motorsport.tv ? I reccommend it highly although it is a good way to get sidetracked for an awfully long time.
I have a few shots from the 1981 video. As you would imagine, there are several Rx-7''s taking part. One decided to expire in a rather spectacular fashion and just happened to get a mention as part of the coverage.
Engine expires just after passing the pitlane entry.

Rather the continue around the course, the driver takes a shortcut across the infield to the pitlane ( I'm guessing that this would have been grounds for disqualification regardless of the expired engine)

Enters pitlane from the grass but technically also in the wrong direction (further grounds for disqualification),

Trying to salvage something, anything, from the weekend 1x PP race engine, requires light overhaul

The bolt is slightly stressed but probably not the main issue here

Stress fracture!
