Good morning all
I bought a 1983 Elford Turbo, 1 owner 70k, been dry stored since 1990. I am based in Birmingham UK. Will collect it over the weekend hopefully. Been told it runs a bit lumpy and hole in radiator. Any group members local to me? Will need a thorough going over, any worn parts replaced and a tune up. Recommendations as to where to get the work done will be appreciated. Does the club meet up regularly, attend cars shows such as Japfest?

Re: New to the forum
Hi and welcome Waylander. We were aware of this car being for sale, so pleased to see the buyer has turned up on here
In fact, the car has changed hands a couple of times in recent months - have a look here:
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=12&start=3400
We don't have any regular social meets as such, although there are a few active members in the West Midlands.
In terms of annual meets, last year we did:
1. Retro Rides Gathering at Shelsey Walsh (in your neck of the woods) in August
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=4295
and, in conjunction with other clubs (RX-8 OC, MRC) we also did:
2. Simply Japanese at Beaulieu
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=4283
our display of cars attracted the attention of the official videographer at the vent, who posted this:
viewtopic.php?f=24&t=4402
I suspect we will arrange to attend all of these events in 2020, plus maybe more, when dates are announced.
I will ensure we get an invite to JDM Combe on 15 Aug, probably in conjunction with another club so we can get a good stand position.
In addition, keep an eye on the forum for small gatherings at Goodwood, Caffiene and Machine (not far from you) and others. We have a Car Shows and Meets section here:
viewforum.php?f=24
Start up a project thread on your car. We'll all be interested to see and hear more about your Elford

Oh, and I've split off your post and mine into a new topic/thread, lest it get lost as part of richardnz's topic

Re: New Owner of a 1983 Elford Turbo
Hi,
welcome to the forum, that looks a nice tidy car. I'm in Stafford and have run Elford Turbos for years. The best place locally to get your car up and running right is https://dftrautomotive.co.uk/ in Dudley. The owners, Adam and Dean are big rotary fans with a wealth of knowledge of RX7's and Elford Turbos... they are the 'go to' guys in the Midlands

Thankyou for the quick input and advice. I am a bit of a JDM but and like collecting/driving old Jap cars. Unfortunately I don't have the time and or skills to do any work on my cars due to work commitments, have to earn the money to own and maintain them

Re: New Owner of a 1983 Elford Turbo
Welcome to our little forum. It's great that the car has ended up on here. These elford's are certainly worth saving, they're getting rarer every year. As has been mentioned, there is a wealth of knowledge on here and we're all friendly. You're not gonna get smacked down for asking a silly question ... we were all learners once.
Looking forward to reading about your rotary journey and hope to meet you and your car at an event somewhere down the line.

Re: New Owner of a 1983 Elford Turbo
Welcome to the forum !
Glad to see the car pop up here as we have been following it for a while.
On the face of things I reckon you have made a good purchase there, looks a tidy car and bodywork is everything with these cars. After being sat for so long expect to change a few things, clutch hydraulics and brake parts are top of the list.
As has already been said the guys at DFTR will do you proud, they have a soft spot for thse cars and know them well.
Im just outside Stoke on Trent so hopefully will bump into you at a meet next year

Re: New Owner of a 1983 Elford Turbo
Morning All
Thankyou for the warmer reception on this group.
Did not get chance to collect the car last weekend, will be collecting it this week Saturday. I did think about driving it back (circa 90 miles) on trade plates as the brakes have been sorted but decided against it as the radiator is leaking, and so going to recover it. Want to get it up and running initially, sort any immediate rust issues and then it will go into hibernation with the odd bit of starting and moving around until weather improves.
