New from California, USA

I joined to learn more about how to restore and maintain our stock '83 GS, which we have owned since about '88, or so. I have found the internet an incredible source and wealth of knowledge, which makes this hobby much more enjoyable. I will learn way more from you than I will be able to share with you. I am currently trying to bring it out of a nearly 20 year slumber, which includes installing the second rebuilt motor (since we have owned it). So, with that, here goes...

Welcome Ben,
As she has been stored for such a long time, I would suggest you change the Clutch & Brake cylinders & Flexi brake hoses, also check all your rubber suspension bushes/steering joints. Did you do the rebuild of the engine?
Look forward to some photos,
regards Pete

It IS a long time to own a car, but sadly it was parked and ignored for nearly half that time. Long story... jobs, health, went back to school to prepare for a new profession, etc., etc. V(o It is currently in my garage, so any decent photos will have to wait. If I have any previous photos from when it was up and running before, they pre-date digital photos and are stored with a ka-gillion other photos in boxes. I am working on the brakes and fuel systems and took a some photos yesterday. I tried to upload a couple of them, but failed. I do not know if I am restricted from uploading photos, since I just joined the forum.

Hi Pete I agree with your suggestions, especially with regards to the brakes (such a critical safety issue). Any suggestions from you (or anyone else) regarding recommended brands of parts would be appreciated, since Genuine Mazda Parts are no longer available in many instances.

I bought both my rebuilt engines from Dave Atkins of Atkins Rotary. Technically its: Atkins Rotary Specialties, 41026 Ski Park Rd E, Eatonville, WA 98328 They are also on the web at http://www.atkinsrotary.com

I will post some photos when I figure out how to do it, or if I reach the point I am allowed to post photos. Not sure which it is at this point...

Most of our parts come from the USA as there are no stockists here :x You are spoilt for choice, we use RockAuto depots throughout the States & you will not be subject to International Shipping like us!
