hi any body got a starter motor , or knows if it differnt on early models

S2 and S3 are definitely different

I can't remember exactly but a few years back I had one of each side by side and they were different... some of the lads on here might remember.... I think we discussed it back then for some reason

I did a lot of research on this a couple of years ago & it seems the difference in the code numbers relate to the number of cogs on the gear.
M3T36081 has 11 teeth
M3T26081 has 7 teeth(?)
I am not sure which is which, I think I have a spare not sure which one, best to replace like for like although I was led to believe they both work

they looked physically different too when I compared them side by side.... I can't say that they aren't interchangeable but it's probably safer to stick to the right series.

Have you removed it yet, if so what is the part number (on Solenoid) & number of teeth?

part no was m3t2608, the guy at the recon place striped it ,and the pole coils were burnt out, can not repair, he phoned around and got me a brand new spanker 100 quid , shiney shiney resolte i think. recon was 75

that's fair enough for a new one, should last years
