Hello from down under Australia

Post by Stefano the Sphinx »

Hello All,

My name is David. I came across this forum while looking for answers as to why my newly acquired 84 fb has such bad rust an the A pillars!
I came across a very sad story posted by Ian. Horrible situation, I hope I can save mine.

This current project is my 3rd fb, and hopefully my last. It is a project car my father and I are doing together.

Once I get the hang of things I will put start my story in the appropriate section. I look forward to getting to know you all, sharing my story and reading others adventures of what I believe the best looking vehicle Mazda ever produced!

Cheers

David

Hi David & welcome,
I am always surprised when I hear stories of rust on cars from Australia :o
I had always assumed it was mainly a Northern Europe problem where it is damp for at least 6 months a year & raining the rest

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the welcome and good wishes.

The car lived a majority of its life close to a beach. Around 10km away from the water. I believe it has been subject to a new windscreen, where no care was taken to seal the metal. That combined with a little salt in the air........

My father finished an Alfa 2600 sprint around a year ago, so we are not strangers to rust. Through that restoration (25 years) dad has made some good friends, one of who is a master metal fabricatior/panel beater. He is coming over on Friday to asses and advise. Fingers crossed.

All that said, it is common for fb's to rust in the rear, doors and sunroofs here in Australia.

Cheers again guys

David

Hi David,
Similarly very surprised to hear that rust is also a problem in parts of Aus.
Thanks for the insight.

Meanwhile very welcome.
