Just thought i drop in to say Hi My name is Ray despite my forum name, although I've being in the motor trade for over 40yrs this is my first Rotary, the itch i needed to scratch started when i was 16 and started work at a local garage where my boss was running a RX3 coupe he then moved on to a RX4 and finally an RX7 he was a big fan of the Wankel engine and had a couple of customers with the NSU RO80, The RX7 was something i always promised my self to own, then marriage kids etc happened and i never gave it another thought til i went to the Neil Howard rally stages at Oulton Park and there sat Martin Beech in his yellow FB so the hunt was on, last night i purchased one and it is being picked up as i write this, it needs a bit of tlc and till i get it on the ramp have no real idea how it fairs it's being parked up for 4 years and looks a bit worse for wear but the guy i bought it off seemed very clued up and only parked it up due to work commitments and not a particular fault, if it needs welding that is something i can do myself just not that sure on all things Rotay,,yet,
I'll up date later when she arrives,,,Ray

Hi Ray,
Welcome to the world of Rotating
Everything is very much the same on the RX7 as cars of the same period, except easier to work on.
Like all cars they have their own characteristics & on here they are all well known,
Look forward to seeing some pictures,
regards Pete

Welcome to the forum Ray
A white series 3,

great colour for a 1st gen RX7!
I don't recall seeing that car before but Dave (Codge) is our resident keeper of records so might have something on it.
It's been a good few years since I've seen some of those little fins on the windscreen wipers as well

, they used to be all the rage didn't they?
cheers,
Ian

Haha yes Ian long time since i've seen any myself, can anyone shed any light on the holes in the air box is this a common mod, also can someone point me in the right direction for spares, need a drivers side interior door release handle too old to climb out the passenger side till i manage to free up the window

and tailgate gas struts,
sorry about the pic quality but linked them from FB til i remember my photobucket password, gave it a couple of washes and she seems to be coming up quite good up to now,

that looks 100% better already
The air box mod isn't particularly common these days although I did do it on my car.... the idea being that the inlet horn on the airbox restricts the airflow so to help the engine breath, people open up holes in the side of the airbox.... how much difference it actually makes is difficult to quantify and you do lose any benefit of the ducted warm air from the exhaust manifold to aid cold running.
Re. parts....... for re-commissioning parts such as brake and clutch cylinders, brake caliper rebuild kits, gaskets etc then Rockauto is best.
For parts such as interior door handles then ebay UK or ebay US or Ebay Aus or stick up a wanted post on the forum.
5 years ago rusted out complete but rusted out parts cars were available for a couple of hundred quid and were very common but the supply seems to have dried up now. Back then though a few of us did buy a few breakers and stockpiled a few spares so a wanted post might get you a hard to find part from someone elses stash. We do try to help each other on here if possible.... there aren't many 1st gen owners / enthusiasts in the Uk so we tend to stick together!
Has your door handle snapped or has the rod come off?
