great stuff Dave
very interesting reading...
you know the next question...
have you got a breakdown of the status of the known cars ie. taxed. sorn, etc
I'd be interested to see how these figures compare to other years.... on the one hand, more cars are becoming known and entering your records but then there's the attrition and we are losing some cars to rust etc.
Are road going figures going up or down?
Are the number of existing cars going up or down?

I'll try and do some analysis ASAP. It really means checking for updates with DVLA for every car, one by one - but I should be able to do a flyer on some regulars that always stay taxed or SORNED.
Numbers I would say are holding virtually constant, maybe a slight upwards trend, but that's because I don't always find out when cars are scrapped, unless they're advertised as parts vehicles.
AS ALWAYS......Apologies if there are any inaccuracies.....anyone feel free to PM me or make a note on here if you think I've cocked something up.....

Dave,
have you got an idea of how many 1st gens survive in a road going condition... not necessarily taxed because that changes from day to day but cars that are more or less capable of achieving a mot.?
About 4 years or so ago, we reckoned about 200 cars survived in the UK.... any revision on that figure?
Obviously more and more become known about all the time but then others fall by the wayside and get scrapped.... interested to know the current trend in remaining numbers.... up or down?

Fairly steady over a long time now. New spots are not very common but then neither are deffinate movers to the scrap pile.
Cars either road or rally going, or sorned and capable of becoming road going are largely represented by the Location List:_
Series 3 cars presently 195 No.
Series 2 cars presently 116 No.
Series 1 cars presently 40 No.
