Hi guys. Im doing a auto to manual conversion into a s1 from a s2. I have swaped everything including the wiring loom and the manual is in and ready to be started. Only problem i have is it wont even attempt to turn over.Fuel pump works and thats all. I have read a blog from another website, saying that the auto wiring loom or ignition needs to see bypassed when swaping to manual. Like an inhibitor switch or something similar. Can anybody help me with this small, but super annoying problem? Have been working for a few months now on the conversion, and to be so close is so frustating.

Need some collective gather round here from the rest of the guys:
In my view it should be straight forward to route a direct ignition /starter feed. There is a simple ECU on our UK cars (passenger footwell on RHD cars), but that only tries to sort out the emissions controls. I don't think it locks out the ignition at all. On an Auto there probably is a gearbox interlock switch. Otherwise the ignition has no electronic gadgets or modern limp-home items to interfere with it's operation?
So I would try to find a gearbox switch and dispense with it or failing that get a Haynes or Mazda wiring diagram to see where is best to rout a new feed to the LT circuit and starter from. Wiring diagrams probably on here courtesy of Ian65.
Am I thinking right here guys?

I would think so dave, there would have been a switch on the auto box that only allowed the starter to engage if the car was in park or neutral, if the old loom was in place you would only need to join a couple of wires together.
As dave says rig up a temporary wire to the starter solenoid and see if it spins the motor, you could always try to find which wire becomes live on the back of the ignition switch when its in the start position, then put a new feed to the solenoid.

I found an old ignition switch tonight, they have 3 sets of wires coming from them with plastic connectors on the ends, there is only one wire with a single connector, all the others are double or tripple, the single one is the feed to the starter solenoid, judging by the thickness of the cable I would think it goes direct (no relay) but I could be wrong.
