I've just joined your forum but feel a bit of a fraud as I no longer own a RX7. I purchased my RX7 Turbo, CEL 919Y, from Tom Walkinshaw,s Mazda outlet just outside of Oxford in 1984 ish ( I still have the original paperwork and Sales brochure ). When I bought it the mileage was approximately 9000. It was an instant attraction - White coloured; TWR decals; Elford Turbo conversion - a real looker. At the time my work colleagues were buying Porsche 924's. The RX7, whilst sharing the same market sector, stood out from the 924's and proved to be a better performer. The only alteration I made was the addition of a TWR steering wheel ( quite expensive at the time ). During the 18 months that I owned it the car was a great performer frequently providing 100 mph plus sprints. The only shortcomings were the fuel economy and the alarming rate it devoured NGK racing spark plugs. When I decided to sell it the TWR garage at Oxford became aware and bought it from me for the same amount of money I had paid them 18 months previously - quite rare!! I still consider buying another one, although not easy, and am glad to say that nearly thirty years on my love of speed has not been tempered by cameras, plod, etc..

Welcome, David. Pics would be great if you have any!

Sounds to me like the fact you're still thinking about the car thirty years later speaks volumes. Both about the car and yourself. Just give in and buy another one, you know you want to

I think she's a goner now David and I've logged it on my register under 'Probably Scrapped'.
DVLA show it as unlicensed since 1996, which means that's likely when it last turned a wheel.

Many thanks for the input though.......It all feeds into our great big pool of knowledge.

Hi David,
welcome to the forum h:
I'd seen the registration of your car mentioned on FlickR a few years back, never saw an photos of the actual car though.
You don't need to be an owner to join in and enjoy the forum..... anyone with an interest in the cars is very welcome on here. As Codge says, we are all trying to pool our knowledge and experiences of 1st gens to build up a knowledge base of both technical stuff and historical stuff and anything you can remember from your time of 1st gen ownership, please post it up...... we'd love to read about it.
Likewise, there's a section dedicated to the Elford turbos with photos of any Elfords we have come across...... if you have any old photos you still have of your car, or any Elford / TWR / related paperwork, we'd be very interested to see those too.

1st gens are a rare car these days, Codge maintains a database and he will give us a more accurate figure but I think there are only approx. 200 cars left now and only around 20 Elfords.....
You better snap one up quick and relive your youth!!
cheers,
Ian
