Hello from Austria

Post by MisterKane »

Hello guys!

My name is Gernot, I'm from Graz/Austria and I'm wondering about not stumbled over this forum earlier.

A few years ago, my only intention was to get a sportscar and my student's budget said "take a japanese one!" That time I didn't know the 1st gen RX7, just the FD. Once, someone offered a very rusty FB in a forum for japanese cars, I saw the pictures and I fell in love. :D So I started searching for a cheap better one - hardly to find - so I bought two "bad" ones for restoration of one. It took about two years to get the body ready, but the engine didn't work, although i overhauled the carburator and ignition. I didn't know anything about the rotary engine and its special problems, but I learned it the hard way.

Because of my works on my first RX7, I got to know a Mazda mechanic who tried to sell his FB for years, but much too expensive. As i told him of my dead engine, he offered his RX7 for much less money than just an used engine and the painting for my "old" one would have cost, so I took the chance in january 2011 and bought my happiness. :D

The car is stock except the 15" rims and the paint, which I had to get used to, but now I really like it!

Hi There. Is It Green?

We call that colour 'Mushy Pea' over here on this Forum.....and we love it to bits. It's suddenly appearing on new cars here as well.

Only the Series 1 UK cars (early 1st Generation) seemed to come in "Mushy Pea Green'

I think the Great British Chip Shop might be the only place in the world that sell mushy peas, Dave. You may need to translate that one

Hi,

no, it's not really green, all in all it looks like cyan. Depending on the incidence of sunlight, you can see several nuances between green and violet. Here, we call it Flip-Flop- or interference paint.
That's far away from any stock colour. You can see it quite well on this picture of last winter (there are no scratches, just ice ;)):

I think I know the colour "Mushy Pea" - a friend's '79 SA is painted like that. In Austria and Germany, it's a very rare colour and it was only available for the Series 1 of 1st generation RX7's here as well.

it might be a trick of the light but that green that we saw on the series 1's really suits the s2 /s3 shape...... never thought I'd say that :o
