I agree ....Lucky wrote:I never see why this should be a debate personally. I think if it's your car, you should be able to do whatever the hell you want to it without anyone sucking teeth about it. There are pristine original cars in museums saved for posterity, it's not the job of a street car. Street cars ought to be used, and if that involves being modified to make them more useable or to the owner's taste then that's all part of it.syebba wrote:The old debate?
To modify or not!
in my humble opinion, clearly
plus in the UK there isn't any demand for 1st gens anyway, they're worth sod all either completely original or otherwise...... it's not like they're 45 grand cars
Take my black s3..... I could have kept it stock or put the Elford stuff on it.... I opted for the later because driving enjoyment is more important to me than preserving it in stock configuration and it's 100% better to drive than a stock car.
It's also more saleable and valuable as an Elford than as a stock car so if I was interested in the financial aspect of it, which I'm not, I'd still be on a winner.
Personally, I prefer the stock factory look of the series 1 but if someone wants to put their time, money and enthusiasm into one, then fair play to them..... it's their car to do what they like with it.
If it was a case of that red s1 going back unused into a lock up for another 16 years or going on the road now with plastic arches on it, the latter gets my vote.
I enjoy seeing the different things we all do to our cars on here......it's what makes it interesting for me.
