Got some new schmutter arrived in da post. Those Racing Beat hoses I ordered seemingly back in the days of black and white finally arrived... complete with Parcel Force's arbitrary fee strategy. Bit annoying that the import duty and fees are half as much again the cost of the actual product. However, they are a really good quality thing; four ply thick, these things do not deflect or deform! In fact, they're so sturdy I'm almost dreading trying to get them on, lol. Clips are real kwol too; with liners to evenly spread the tightening force like Mikalor clips do. And of course, free natty RB logos on each end, lol









Plus I got a new and incredibly manly bench grinder to replace the one that fried itself polishing a mates straight-six Opel Commodore rocker box. This one ought to be up to whatever I can chuck at it. It weighs a bloody ton!



And while I was ordering from Frosts, I thought I'd get in a POR15 tank sealant kit and some POR15 external rustproof paint for my proposed great FB tank refurb. Looking forward to having fun with industrial-strength chemicals! lock up the kids and pets...



AND on the subject of tank refurb, I had a hell of a job getting the drain bolt out as it was rounded off and stuck with years of crud plus painted over with hammerite or something. Since M10 fine pitch bolts are pretty unusual and it was almost the same price as getting a stainless one, I needed no further excuse than to indulge one of my favourite fetishes. Mmmmmmm titanium. Feather-light and just... well, sexy. No, I'm not weird



and finally, for no better reason than I've always wanted one, a genuine JDM y0! Japanese Automobile Federation badge. Ordered, rather oddly, from a very nice man in New Zealand! It can go on my new grille wot I'm designing, along with my 1930s RAC plaque

It's M10x1.25 rather than one and a half pitch, which the "default" M10 pitch is. I think it's a common Japanese motorbike thread size though, which is why titanium seems popular, us Power Rangers are a fashion victim bunch at the best of times

Plus titanium has the advantage of being pretty much inert and resistant to everything (including, most relevantly, petrol) and as long as it's copper-greased to prevent thread galling it should outlast pretty much every other part of the car

Though... Thinking about it - the tank being mild(?) steel and the bolt being titanium I'm not so sure about the longevity of the thread due to galvanic corrosion.

Might be a non issue but I'm going to stick to stainless just in case

Also referred to as 'galling' as you state... You're already a step ahead then

Won't using dissimilar metals cause galvanic corrosion, keep an eye on the tank around the bolt

lol. Yeah, maybe. Reckon a bit of thread lube gives it a better chance than putting back the bolt it came with, which I already know for definite will corrode!

Reckon this little lot will give someone a whole heap of fun. Fortunately not me. And in all likelihood, not half as much fun as getting the old ones out

Looks nice, I've got the same set for my car. I tried every way to get the old ones out but had to resort to the blowtorch method, as nothing else would shift them. I reckon Mazda used super glue
