Spod, sorry mate, I think we're on different red cars. I should have tagged Ian's post bottom of page 41 (quote).
I'm on about the S3 in Norwich with the side flashes. I think you're on about the S2 KYO in Dublin? That one has deffo been resprayed.
I can't see any signs of re-spraying on the Norwich car. But from my armchair it's not easy to tell.
It does look a cracker though, I think I would be after that if I wanted another.

on ebay... spares or repair £99 start...
sellers description:
1983 Mazda RX-7 S2 - TWR front & rear spoilers
MOT Failure - spares or repair - no reserve!
I bought this car from a local dealer in December 2010 and used it for a 4000 mile road trip. For the 25 years previous to that it had 1 owner. I spent money on it (somewhat foolishly!) and had plans to keep it but it has now failed the MOT with some pretty much terminal symptoms. So I am selling it now to help fund my house move, if it can't be saved it will at least be a great source of spares to someone. During my short ownership I had a lot of fun with the car, it is very rare, fun to drive and actually quite fast.
The MOT has expired, however the car has Tax until Feb 2012 and I still have it insured. Book yourself an MOT and come and drive it away!
I have tried to put as much information here as possible, but feel free to ask any questions or ask for more pictures, I will email them to you.
GOOD POINTS:
•Mint interior - carpets, seats, dash, switchgear, all in great condition
•Good engine - rebuilt Rotechniks unit, pulls strongly, no smoke. I fitted new spark plugs, new K&N air filter, oil/filter, has Magnecor red leads
•TWR front and rear spoilers - factory fitted. In good condition
•Full stainless exhaust system
•New front brakes - I fitted as-new refurbished front calipers, front Goodridge stainless hoses, rear hoses will be included but not fitted
•Electrics - pop-up headlights, electric mirror, electric windows, electric aerial, filler cap, boot release, clock etc all working. Psgr window a bit slow
•S2 alloy wheels (spare is missing)
•Some rust patches on outer bodywork but most of it is in good condition
•Brand new front tyres, done about 10 miles. Tracking also done!
•Newly fitted refurbished starter motor
•new fuel pump and fuel filter fitted
BAD POINTS:
•Rust never sleeps! As you can see in the pictures, the chassis rails are rotten. Failed on 6 points of rust in the MOT
•Suspension is nackered - nearside rear shock has no oil left, all round is very bouncy, bushes are split
•Sills are rusty underneath
•Has had a minor shunt to the rear bumper which bent the metal valance, has been straightened out
•Clutch beginning to slip
•Some play in steering (idler bush?)
•Squeaky viscous fan coupling
•Fuel pump mounts need seeing to
•Gear lever does not 'return' to middle, spring broken
Viewings welcome, the car is in South Shields, Tyne & Wear. The car is fully driveable, if it wasn't for the rust I would sort it out and keep it. Cash on collection please!
Any questions please ask, happy bidding!

Now there's a car that hides its rust well, from the photos it looks ok, atleast the owner is honest with his description.

Yeah, just goes to show how deceiving UK market cars can be! Mint on top but shagged underneath!
