That's what parts cars are for lol. It's always the smallest things that take up the most time eh dude.
Best to put some heat on things first or soak them in diesel for a while. Which reminds me, I must use diesel for soaking rotors next time I get stubborn side deals.

Lol yeah totally, I did take the calipers off the other one-one nipple is free but the other side is the same so it's soaking. I can say with confidence that this is the least enjoyable part of any build I've done.

Re: My two SA's
When you embark on a car restoration of any magnitude there is always one task that you dislike and for me it's the brake calipers. After getting the rebuild kit from Bigg Red and having a lame attempt at putting them back together I decided that considering they're stopping my sorry ass I'd send them to people who have far more patience than me. So rebuild kit and calipers are now back at Bigg Red, should have them back middle of the week and then it'll be MOT attempt Nº1.
Rebuilt the suspension, required some new drop links as they were shot, and my new idler arm is installed.

Lower control arms etc will be powder coated at a later date when time is on my side but have to MOT'd within 14 days as insurance won't cover longer than that on the chassis number.

Re: My two SA's
I have been reading you're threads with interest. Loving the Swiss rebuild it's a great looking car and saving the RHD beastly as well.
I have used bigg redd before on my Jetta. It failed its M.O.T. So I set about rebuilding it. Took the brakes off and bought a brake build kit, soaked the calipers in oil and then degreasent and wired brushed all the rust off. Great. Took a spanner to the bleed nipples and boom, sheared them off both! Sent the calipers to bigg red with the rebuild kits along with my steering knuckles (de-rusted and bearing less), a week later they were back in perfect condition powder coated. Quality work too.
Really not looking forward when I have to do this job on my SA either to be fair. I like the idea of soaking them in diesel to try and free them up.
What is the plan with the car, keeping it original or going for a bit of a JDM spesh? Good luck with it mate

Basic plan is to get the dishy jdm wheels and fenders on then hopefully just enjoy her for a bit as long as the 12A that's in her behaves. Long term engine plans aren't finalised yet.
I'm impressed with bigg red so far so hopefully they'll do me proud too, it'll be nice knowing I can slap these straight on and I know they'll work.

Re: My two SA's
Attempted to get to MOT man today,
Made it up the garden before the alternator packed up.

Then had to modify the loom to put an S3 alternator on with internal regulator. Soon as that was done and fired back up I then had issues with the carb which I swapped for one out of the shed. Worked for all of ten minutes then the running woes returned at which point I lost interest for the day.
Will let her off though - she was sat for what turned out to be 18 years.

Only minor set backs you will get there in the end and I'm sure it will be worth it.

Re: My two SA's
Time for an update.
Since the initial attempt to make it to my MOT station ended after 10 metres we regrouped and had a look at what was up. The 12A was in good health and ran, but was having fueling issues more than likely caused by a lot of varnish and crap in the tank. The bucket of fuel filters I went through lay testament to this.
So out the tank came - they are the same as the S2 tank so have welded in fittings and no access to what lies within so after a brief attempt at a resurrection it was duly thrown over my shoulder.
Being that S1/2 tanks are rather rare in a good useable state and I was getting bored with a non running S1 a plan was put together involving a weekend, three Exiles and a BBQ.
I'll let the pics do the talking

This resulted in...

And a cool little video shot by Steve-A throughout the Saturday...

This gave us successful propulsion, and without further ado, it was off for MOT. We had a fail, but only on a few minor things and most importantly no rot.
A load of boring forms later and I sent a big envelope off to the DVLA and am still awaiting my registration number so in the meantime have been faffing about. This is the result of this weekends efforts.

And that's it till I get that reg number.
Many thanks to Steve-A, Liam and James (silverarrow) for making this possible and the rest of Exile as always.

Looking good dude
Shall be awesome to get her out on the road!
I've had issues with pictures before too. I think instead of scaling the photos it just cuts off anything wider that the window you're currently viewing it in. I just made my pictures smaller.
