I'm flattered guys, thank you. All I'm doing is reading the guides and manuals and following the instructions! The clever people are the ones who write the codes and design the system!
As for carbs being simple, they are not! Once this is up and running sorting out a lean/rich spot in the fueling will be a 2 or 3 click operation. Understanding carb jetting properly is a mine field!
I spent a few more hours on it tonight. Firstly I decided I was unhappy presuming that the RPM generator in the simulator was the problem with my lack of RPM reading during my tests. So I temporarily wired my FC crank angle sensor up to the simulator board. Turning it by hand at what I guess was 2 or 3 times a second I got a read out of 150 rpm, so thats promising!
I then set about building the output circuits. These take the tiny signals from the ECU and amplify them to a point where they can power a fuel injector or trigger a coil. It took most of the evening but here it is.
I hooked it up to the computer and when U turn the crank angle sensor round I now get little lights flashing to say its attempting to fire imaginary coils and fuel injectors. Wonderful
Next up I need to make some more modifications to the board. I need to fit the fan relay driver circuit I bought and I need to build a high power ignition circuit to drive my FD coils. On recommendation from Tim at RX Motors I'm going to use a set of 4 FD trailing coils, triggered individually like an rx8 set-up.
I've already got the parts for the fan driver, but I need to buy the bits for the coil drivers. I'm waiting to be paid so anything that requires money is on hold for a bit. Over the weekend I'm hoping to get into the garage and finish my adapters to fit the throttle bodies to the manifold.

great detail here Steve and well described too. I'll make a copy of the megadquirt section of your thread into the 'ignition & fueling' section of the forum if that's ok as it'll be easier for others to find there if they are thinking of doing the same thing.
Seeing how you've built up that pcb takes me back. I did A level electronic systems in the 6th form and then I used to repair / modify the game pcb's out of the old space invader coin-op arcade machines. I spent hour after hour changing roms and IC's to hack the game boards....in fact I've still got some of the pcbs out of the machines in the roof, phoenix, pacman, moon cresta etc.
I'd imagine I'd quite enjoy building up a megasquirt controller... pity I've no need for one at the moment! Who knows what the future will bring though...

Thats fine Ian. If you like I can write it up a bit more as an actual how to guide rather than a record of my progress? I'll wait till its all in the car and working first though!

Once more, I'm left in awe of your skills and attitude, Steve

Can't get past the "I'll do that in my bedroom/back garden/shed, how hard can it be?" sorta approach. If it were me, I know I'd have burned at least eight of my favourite fingers to the bone with solder, smashed at least one board to bits in a paddy tantrum, and ended up with something that looked like a 50's sci-fi movie prop that probably needed a cabinet to house it all and beyond a few flashing lights, did nothing at all. Lol. Awesome work

Or even Gorf....

oh yes, Williams Defender... these days the holy grail of arcade machines. It was a dedicated 4 board pcb set, temperamental and difficult to troubleshoot. I had one once in a tabletop machine... it'd be worth a fortune these days.
