TWiR was very well behaved and has a shiny new MOT :D

yay Good to go for another year yay

Was booked in for 0900 and was driving it back home by 1015. Only one advisory for a small amount of corrosion on both inner wings. They say it's a straightforward repair so I'll get them done before the next test.

Pleasing sight when I came to pick up the car ... Caterham 7 in the bay, Rover P5 B on a ramp and a Mercedes hearse outside on stands. Turns out these guys have a big classic customer base. Two of the writers for C&SC are regulars.

I've got my rebuilt calipers to go on so I'll get them to fit those. One or more of the carrier bolts are sure to snap if I go anywhere near them based on past experience.

Finally got around to getting the new brakes on. I left the task to Mullan Speed Shop and told them to expect TWiR to put up a fight .... which she duly did apparently. I booked the job for 0900 on Thursday and got her back 54 hours later!
So she has four reconditioned and painted calipers (thanks to http://www.brakecaliperspecialists.uk/ ) and a set of braided hoses.

OMG Copper Slip everywhere! Question. How much copper slip is too much? This much?

Or this much?

I'm going to wipe most of it off the mating faces as I don't want it contaminating the discs.

I got six braided hoses in my set. Four brake hoses and one each for the clutch slave and the brake proportioning valve

The brake pedal is quite long so obviously requires more bleeding. Will try and do that before Beaulieu next week.

OMG indeed......Much too much copper grease. Should be the slightest of light smears on the mating wheel faces if you feel you need it.
And really no grease or oil on the wheel studs, (although for years I did put a smidgen on the nut shoulders until I was told this was not recommended).
The pads should have a just tiny bit of high temp white brake grease, just a trace where the pads locate into the calliper and again the slightest of light smears of white grease on the anti rattle plates.
By slightest of smears I mean it can hardly be seen.....just an anti rusting film.

Thanks for the advice. It almost looks like they've brushed it on! I did around 80 miles yesterday before I took the wheels off to get pics of shiny new bits. Really didn't expect to find that :o

Calipers look really nice aye! Braided hoses are pretty sweet too. I love mine :D

Your pictures loaded fine on my phone. But they're HUGE on my PC. Unsure if it's my end or yours? Hahah

I'm not sure what's happening there. They load up fine on my PC initially, wait about 60 secs then they go all super sized. They didn't do that when I first put them up. :o

Few little teething problems. Gotta get some spigot rings and one of the rears may need a little persuasion in the straightening department. Still, I think they look rather good.
Thanks to Mister Tool for recommending the powdercoaters.
