Hi

I'll measure the friction plate tomorrow, but it was a straight swap and was the same size.

Looks like a series 3 pressure plate, so I'm thinking the fc pressure plate is different to the fb pressure plate, as the new kit is for an FC?

Stop calling it an FC clutch. There is no FC clutch.

There's FC NA 225mm and FC turbo which was 235mm or 240mm iirc. There's 3 different ones for FC.

The link I sent you described a 225mm clutch which will fit a S3 motor.

What motor have you got?
What clutch did you get?

has anyone actually put a series 3 flywheel and a series 4 FC flywheel side by side and compared them?

Ok thats the friction plate measured and its 225mm confirmed ( also when measured against the old friction plate its identical in size )

I have a s3 12A as far as I know. The reason I was slightly worried about a wrong engine being in there is when comparing inlet manifold gaskets on mazdatrix, the manifold that would fit the s3 was showing as having an extra "inlet" style opening at the bottom which mine doesnt have and subsequently the s2 was showing as not having on their site either.

The clutch I ordered was the German kit advertised for an 86-89 model hence me referring to it an an "FC" clutch made by WWW.SRLINE.COM. os was advertised as a 225mm clutch plate.

The friction plate at 225mm is not the problem it fits. The pressure plate wont due to the holes for the dowels not being far enough apart. Clearly theres a physical difference when looking at them side by side however its actually about 3-5mm out in realitly from fitting.

Sorry if some of my posts arnt 100% clear, I post from my mobile and dont have the patience for all this touch screen tiny screen nonsense!!!

just because its a 225mm clutch and the same number of splines doesnt mean it will fit a series 3 rx7
what's to say the bolt holes and dowels are in the same place?
i think you'll probably find a series 3 clutch is different to a series 4 FC clutch

Shows like mine works fine on my Rx7 FB 1984 since a long time. I bought it 20 year ago from Japcar fits also Rx7 FC 150 PS.

This is a genuine S2 215mm clutch cover:

This is a genuine S3 225mm clutch cover:

The S2 and S3 are visually quite different. The S3 cover also is "deeper" in that the clutch face sits forward from the mounting surface. The S2 sits flush.

Genuine parts were made by Daikin and have this symbol (the DK with "wings"):

This is very confusing. If you go to the Daiken (now Exedy) website, their kit is MZK 2017 and is claimed to fit 1984 thru 1989, 12a and 13b) So the kit for the S4 (na) should be ok! http://ww3.elcome.co.uk/Exedy/Default.asp?i=30

It also says that clutch fits 09/1983 - 03/1984 and shows a different part number for a s4 FC. I would disregard all these internet sellers who say a FC clutch fits the series 3..... if someone tells me that they have physically taken a clutch off a series 3 and bolted it to a series 4 and it worked ( or visa-versa) then I'll believe it but otherwise, I think they are different which would explain why the clutch cover Rich bought doesn't fit...... 'cause it's a FC clutch, not a Fb series 3 clutch
