Doubt it. You'd reduce the surface area of the cooler by a huge amount. need the air to pass through the fins and between the tubes. The V-mount set up for Rad and Cooler works becuase air gets forced in in a normal direction then forced out through the respective cores up and down. A flat oil cooler even its base directly the air flow wouldn't be much better than a beehive. An angle is cool as long as there is a path for air to go in and also importantly - out.TOOL wrote:You can lay the oil cooler dead flat and it will be fine.

Do some searching on Ausrotary. If it's fine in OZ, it'll be fine here.

I've changed my mind. The more I looked at the FC radiator the more I disliked it so pulled it all back out again. Decided to buy an alloy radiator and mount it similar to how it was before as I know it worked, will just isolate it from the intercooler a bit better to reduce heatsoak.
Oil cooler can go back where it was lol.

Or you could slap it hard up against the rad to keep best airflow.

good call... I can't see how it can work as efficiently lying horizontal as it can the right way up.Chud wrote:I've changed my mind. There's lots of information on it. Here's one example:

Cheers Tool, to be fair it was only giving me headaches because of what I was trying to achieve - I might even flip it 180° from where it was so it's not blocking airflow to the intercooler and radiator but I'll see how it goes. I never had temperature issues even with the S2 radiator so I'm sure it'll be fine.

Re: '80 13BT Series 1
A flat oil cooler by itself would be poor in cooling efficiency as air would just bypass it, if you'd said 'mounted flat with an air splitter to force air into it and an undertray to create low pressure below it' then I would have understoodTOOL wrote:There's lots of information on it. Re: '80 13BT Series 1
Today was a good day. Aside from the beautiful weather I received this picture ...

With that in mind I thought I'd better collect my turbo so off I went. Seems bigger that I remember.

While I was there Tim went and had a dig about and found the downpipe he used with an identical turbo which is a right result as that saves me a lot of work. I'll get my man to tidy it up a bit and fit a bung for the AFR meter then heat wrap it. All he's got to do then is blend that in to my existing system.
Here it is in all it's glory.

While I was there I also managed to talk him out of its accompanying wastegate which again, saves me no end of agro - I just need to buy some V band clamps.

And lastly - made use of the pleasant evening, cracked a beer and refitted the oil cooler.

Hopefully engine in Sunday. 8)
