It's been a busy old week for me, but with the retro rides show fast approaching I had to knuckle down and get on with finishing this paint work off.
I finished at lunchtime yesterday so got home and got straight on with lacquering my rear quarter that I painted last week. Preferably I'd have not driven the car between the two stages but it just wasn't practical. What I wasn't expecting was for half of my local roads to have been 'surface dressed' in other words 'lets shove some tar down and then heap gravel all over it and hope for the best and leave you all with a totally crap road surface', not only does this mean taking my life in my hands if I decided to ride my motorbike but it also meant the side of my car got coated in tar and my windscreen received a nice new stone chip
Anyway with the tar removed I got busy spraying, so the rear quarter is done and just the door to paint.
I still had daylight left, and didn't want to start sanding and stuff near the soft fresh paint of the quarter, so time for some mechanicals.
The clutch hydraulics have slowly been getting worse recently, so last week I bit the bullet and ordered a new master and slave from the states.
Popped them on and it was so much easier to bleed than the old leaky master cylinder and now the clutch bites in exactly the same place every time! Luxury!
This was the first in a two stage plan to make my car a little more driveable. The second stage was to re-work the throttle linkage on my throttle bodies.
When I initially set-up the throttle bodies I just used the standard Suzuki throttle cam which was much smaller than the cam on the original carb.
Combined with the much larger throttle plate area, driving like a normal human being required very careful right foot movement. While rummaging around in the shed for my flare spanner I found an old cam wheel that I think was off my old 2t motorbike. Bit of drilling and welding later it was mounted up.
And the good news is I've now got a normal amount of pedal movement. So it's definitely easier to drive now
Today the door's time came, and I had help from Ross so for once there's pictures of me actually working.
The door came out pretty well really, I got a better finish to the lacquer than on anything I've painted with the gun yet.
In that photo it looks like the door is the wrong colour compared to the wing, whereas in fact the wing is the wrong colour! haha. TBh I'm not worried. All the fresh paint needs flatting and polishing now but I'm trying to leave that as late as possible to really let it harden off.
The main thing is there's really no rust left now! yaaaaaay!
