They're not custom ones Ian, they're listed on their stock list (FC TII set) but they still took a couple of weeks to come - made by a lady called Carol apparently.

They also come with a handful of seperators which is upsetting as I bought some lol too for the sum of £1.99.

Got a couple of minutes to myself last week so fitted my new leads....
While I was on a roll I installed the HKS boost controller that had been sat on the microwave for a couple of months and was on the brink of being filed under B for bin by the wife. So the stepper motor needs a boost/vacuum reference point intercooler side of the throttle body and inlet manifold side. Manifold was easy, straight off one of the six trillion vacuum nozzles around that area - the other one not so straightforward. Unfortunately my turbo is devoid of any waste gate nozzles and the like so I drilled, tapped and sealed a nozzle into the first hard pipe available south of the blower.
Dern.
Stepper motor was easy, mounted to the firewall with nice short routes to its destinations, the vital one being the waste gate sat far just yonder.
And with a bit of wiring we had light.
Running out of reasons not to throw it at a rolling road now.
Splendid.

Ahem....um yeah so where were we? Oh yeah I've been playing with VW's.
My conscience got the better of me today and I went and retrieved the old girl. Tim had sorted the somewhat hit and miss starting situations which turned out to be a fuel trim setting a bit squiffy and now considering is still on a rough map starts okay whatever the temperature. With that sorted I went and did the honourable thing and give her a wash. Picture to prove it - probably first clean in two years.
My bad.

Today I set about fitting the HKS Twin Power ignition amp thats been sat in my bed side cabinet for over 6 months - seeing as mapping is 9:30 on Tuesday I figured I better get it done.
I used an old M8 threaded hole from a previous coil position to mount it on the strut tower, and after trying to make head or tale of the lost in translation installation manual I sussed it out and got it done.
She's always been a bit of a pain to start from lukewarm, and after a quick look at the controller it was apparent why as the water temp correction value for 40ºc was 64%!! So with that brought down a bit and the ignition amp we now have far easier starting and feels as crisp as you'd expect with a rough tune. So thats her ready for Tuesday.
(No idea why the bumper end cap is wonky.)

Well what a day, set off at 8:30 Salisbury-bound and were on the dyno by 10. First things first, timing checked and set, knock sensor hooked up and idle map sorted. On then through the standard motions of farting around with set points in the rev range at cruise and then start introducing boost for WOT. Everything was going smoothly until it was boost time, and it was apparent that we had no form of boost regulation whatsoever, and kept hitting the boost cut on the ECU. We hooked and airline and gauge up to the gate and it came clear that this was the problem - it wasn't opening until 20psi.
Off it came and I split it hoping to find two springs, I wasn't expecting to discover the contents of a pond.
I mean - WTF?!
Anyway, the guy at the road took it off and cleaned it in the parts washer for me and made it spotless and after a bit of love was all good, he then cut and flattened the end of the spring and when put back together was releasing at our 14 psi goal. Happy days.
So we had gate pressure, but this isn't much good for fuel mapping as they bounce around all over the place. This meant I actually had to decipher the japanese instructions for the HKS boost controller which after some frantic googling led us to success and after 3 attempts we gained full boost control at a lovely 14.7psi.
The rest is history, and she made a whopping 395bhp AT THE WHEELS.
I think that'll do.

Holy Martha F
So this is what you have really been up to!
That whole VW bus thing was just a cover story. Haha just kidding.
Nice to get some top results there.
Now to work out how to get that extra 5hp - coachline?
