Re: Vyv - my series 3
Needs tints to finish the look.
Or is it just the bogan coming out?

Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......
Re: Vyv - my series 3
Yes, tints are on the shopping list. I'm not great with vinyl and film application (I would have vinyl wrapped the car if I was
) so I'd rather accept my limitations and pay someone to do it. Just need to find someone good enough to trust my car with!
Re: Vyv - my series 3
The vinyl on the tops of the door cards are quite brittle, and had a few splits and holes.
Got bored last weekend, and re-trimmed them
they don't match the seats now anyway...

so it was off with the old

and on with the new...

fronts and rear quarter panels done

It needs a foam underlay really, to smooth out the lumps and bumps, but it'll do for now. I'll get the rear seat trimmed properly, I don't have the skillz for that...in fact, I might just let them re-do the lot
I also got my intake temp and leccy gauges fitted and working...

I tried tinting the headlights...I like the look, but couldn't get it smooth enough, so I ripped it off again

That's it for this year...see you at RRG14

Ooooh, like those gauges, where are they from? Snazzy. Like the retro-looking stereo, too. Does it play newfangled CDs and stuff, or is it just a radio?
The doorcards look great, so much better than the old 80s herringbone flock stuff

Re: Vyv - my series 3
Great post Marc, I always thought the end door cards could do with some updating. Did you use vinyl with adhesive backing or glue?
Also, Rx8 shifter is a nice touch.

Re: Vyv - my series 3
some nice touches there Marc.... 've been after a 5 speed RX8 gear lever knob but they seem to fetch top dollar in good condition..... is yours illuminated? I know some of them are...... where did you get the leather gator from? ..... look good.
Is that gauge some sort of volt meter? I need a decent voltmeter for my car... I lost mine when I fitted the boost gauge
Door card retrim is on the cars for me as well either over the winter or next spring.... i can't wait to lose that horrible 1980's velour stuff.

Re: Vyv - my series 3
Thanks guys...blimey, so many questions to answer
The vinyl wasn't self adhesive, I used spray mount and staples to secure it...at least, I hope it's secure...I'll find out at the weekend when I'm back over at the unit
It really does need foam underneath it to look decent, but that's tricky to do, because you can't adhere the vinyl to the foam, it needs to "float" so it can move and relax properly. I'll have another crack at it over the winter, I might replace the cards completely, as the old boards have seen better days, and I reckon some marine ply will make a much better base!
Kbob likes the original velour, she's odd like that. Luckily I couldn't separate the velour from the vinyl, so it all had to go.
One of the meters is a combined volt and amp meter, the other is a temperature gauge, which is a 5 volt unit, but it's easy enough to drop the supply down with a resistor. I...ahem...found mine in my box of control unit case parts at work, not sure where they came from.
I got the gearknob out of my mates old RX8, when he upgraded to a lit one...it's a bit battered and worn, suits the car
the gaitor was from ebay, it's not real leather, but it looks better than my old split one, and mumma told me never to use a split rubber
The retro head unit is a Pioneer from a few years ago, it's about the only really decent head unit that looks 'old skool' enough to sit in there, it plays CDs, and can link to an ipod, apparently. Of course, in my car, it only plays "Back in Black" by AC/DC...that and Radio 2
All I need to do now is nurse it to Retro Rides and JAE, and then the fun of a rebuild will begin. Sorry in advance for the plethora of stupid questions I'll be asking over the winter months

I think the new matt color combines well with the golf front splitter
