when I first put Cricket on the road I too noticed dripping in passenger footwell but also drivers side, upon tear-down I found the cowl drain holes had clogged up over time causing water to sit inside the cowl. Passenger area it was around the "fresh air vent" where the blower motor is ducted into the cowl, drivers side was the complete seam where the lower cowl panel attaches to the side. Not fun, but can be repaired. After the repairs I glassed the underside of the vents in the cowl access panel to prevent future leaks.

as far as the a/c goes, Mazda was kind enough to use a Sanden sd5 compressor so retro fit would be a snap. I do have a complete lhd a/c system in the parts car, but condition is unknown. Both my a/c cars look as if the dealer installed the a/c-wiring is seperate from main/engine wiring. I'll pull it all out and shoot some pics if interested, as the system in cricket works flawlessly I do not see a need to hold on to these parts.

Under cowl panel , at either end of that chamber , is a semi hidden section - it gathered crap over the last 30 years and usually rusts out the base and corners of the chamber at both ends. If you remove the front guards it will be visible .

Many thanks to both of you for your input. I actually understood the problem once I saw the screen being replaced. I could see the path that water would take into that hidden area so I assumed that it was blocked in there somewhere.

Luckily when the screen went back in, there is thick foam seal between the screen and the trim. It was a mother of a job to get the trim to click into place but the upside is that water has a tough time getting under the trim in that particular area so there is no more ingress, at least for now. But I shall get the guard off during the summer and attend to it once and for all. Great pics too so thanks again.
