I am sure there is plenty of welding work in the FB community from personal experience LOL!!!
Just don't have enough hours in a weekend to do everything I need to do have just finished restoring a R33 GTST a bought 2 years ago and now she is rock solid
the hardest thing was spraying her but now I have the experience to make the FB look very nice, still carn't decided what colour to spray it but think I might stay with the original light blue as all the door shuts and engine bay will match, and after i've finished that I have to finish the wifes Rover SD1 3.5 vitesse have all the new panels but am not starting that till i've finished FB as that is a restoration Marathon believe me!!!

Well I'd say you aren't lacking experience with getting the car solid again . I'm only just about to buy a welder and teach myself so I can try to fix mine :o. Good score on the bodykit! Looking forward to the pictures th:

Good luck with the welding the only thing I can say is do as much practice as you can before you actually weld your car setting up the feed and the power setting is crucial as you will blow holes or end up with the bird dropping welding that I have seen on repair work that I have had to do again for people over the year.
Make sure you get as much of the sound proofing out as you can as this will set on fire very quickly and so will your car if you are not carefull!!!
Always have a spotter with you with a watering can full of water as I found out to my cost a few years ago when I was welding up a small hole above my windscreen on my calibra, I went in to wash my hand and came out to all the sound proofing on the floor under the peddle box on fire :o
I only just saved the car from going up in flames on the drive, hot weld spatter gets everywhere and will start fire very easily!!!
If you weld near glass try to cover the glass up I use leather welders aprons or it will burn pin holes in you glass!!
I always replace with 1.6mm steel this is hard to bend and shape but if you can do it it is well worth it as it increases the structural rigidity but normal car body panels are only about 1mm I have found as a rule, And as I have found out again to my cost always wear goggle when grinding I have been up to the Eye hospital to many times in the past to have slivers of metal pulled out of my eye and this is not very pleasant at all until they are fetched out.
And buy the best welder you can afford it is worth it try to stay with established makes, I bought a plasma cutter probably made in china but lets see how long it lasts!!

Hi Martin, Greetings from me.

ACV was first noted July 2010 in Cheltenham. It hung about for a bit then went off the radar, presumably your garage!
I've moved it on the 1st Gen register to Birmingham now.......and thanks for that. It's still on the present location list at No. 72 in Cheltenham but the next list will show the update. I think the Reg is originally Ex Truro.

You know the Racing Green S3?.....Is that 'TRH'? Has to be really as there's only one Racing Green 1st Gen that I know of. It was in Sheffield, Had a fuel pump problem as I recall. Then Somerset until Dorset.
I'll relocate it on the location list to Staffs area. Get your mate on here as well by the way.

I think I was trying to get the Reg of the silver Y reg in Halifax but no sucess. I'll check that. If you've got pics with Reg that's great.
(Register includes any known scrappers or cars pulled for bits).

Cheers

Hi Dave yes I bought ACV from Cheltenham 16/08/2010 and its been with me ever since the original reg I believe was A299URL that's what's etched into the window glass without uncovering it and looking but cannot do at moment!!
And Yes it did come from Truro have all the paperwork and old MOT'S believe it was a lady owner and she put the ACV reg on it as all the glass has URL etched on it. Yes the British Racing green fb is the one with the fuel pump problem which my mate derek bought from poole I went down with him to look at it to check it for tinworm will get him on here as soon as I can probably next Tuesday the starter motor was also knackered but he has had it rebuilt and has a fuel pump to go on aswell. Ive told him about the forum and he wants to make it to Shenly walsh Hill climb next year as so do I so we better get busy over the Winter months.

Regards Martin.

Nice fleet you have there. R33 GTST is a nice ride ... lots of those back home. And SD1 Vitesse are pretty thin on the ground these days. Most of those rusted away, didn't they? Vitesse was the best version though.

Hi Dave yes most of the old rovers are going to the great scrap heap in the sky these days due to the poor seam sealing that the came of the production line with,
the same can be said with the R33 gtst's due to the amount of spares on ebay these days due to rotten shells, not many cars in my opinion back in the day had enough protection from the amount of salt that we have to put down on our roads in the winter, we have 2 r33's one turbo one non turbo both which I have had to
cure of tinworm!!! the SD1 is particularly bad as you would expect from a british leyand car of the day LOL!!! took me 7 years searchin of ebay to get some original rear wheel arches!!! The RX had a knackered radiator due to rust but got an aluminium 2 row from australia last year had to pay import duty but the best way to go as I have read on the forum that the rotary's biggest danger is overheating so hopefully this should never happen now. Would love to get the RX on LPG
as all the other cars we have are all on LPG and run fine, I bought some door 2 years ago from a chap just outside ludlow who was breaking a black series 2 I think,
That had been fitted with LPG and he had been running it for years on gas!!! But he took the system of when he sold the car to the chap I bought the doors off we only pay £0.43 for lpg locally here so its something I have been looking into for a while I know RX8's can be gassed so something for the future I can achieve I hope.

Welcome along, Martin. A fine (and eclectic) choice of cars you have there, lol. There was a guy on here who used to run his FB on LPG as a daily driver, ShaunWil IIRC his username was. Might be worth seeing if you can find his build thread

Hi Lucky will certainly be looking for that thread thank you. I am going to put some pictures up of the state of tinworm infestation on my FB and the curing of it which was bloody hard work and more weld burns than I care to think about welding a car on the drive on axle stands. :x

Regards Martin.
