It span the rear bearing at 60mph on the motorway and completely locked the engine up. Spun car round and parked itself on the hardshoulder in the space of 1sec !

Some images of the damage to the rear rotor :

Well I've just bought a 12a from the car being breaking in Skem. Will do a quick puff test with a socket and then get it in the car.

Hopefully I can get the car running again and at least sell it to somebody that wants it to stay in one piece !

Did you ever open the engine up to find out what happened?
it mashed up the gears on the rear rotor and stationary gear
Revving it too high? Pics?
More likely I've run too low on oil in the engine and damaged the bearing at some point. It had been getting harder to start for some time but just put it down to the gas.

I did do about 250 miles a week in the car for 5yrs straight ! Never really let me down either until the engine went pop.

Holy cow, that's ugly! You were lucky to "get away" with that one, Shaun :o

Glad to hear you've got a new lump to go in though, nice to think the ol' girl will run again

Hopefully it will be at least a reasonable engine.

I was definitely being looked after on that day ! Thought my diff had exploded and only realised it was the engine when I got home !

It wasn't scary at the time, just thinking about it afterwards put it in to perspective !
