Hi,
I’m thinking of getting an early rx7, so series 1or2. I know very little about them other than I’ve always liked the shape and the idea of them! And the revvy little rotary engine intrigues me.
How useful/useless are the rear seats?! I have two kids 5 and 7 and would occasionally need to take them in it. Also, would a bike fit in the back with the seats down? ( carefully obviously!). We have use of another larger car so that’s not a problem. It would be my daily driver but I work from home so it wouldn’t get too much use, mainly weekend stuff.
If anyone is thinking of selling a decent, reliable car, I have about £6k to spend, so unfortunately that gorgeous mint green one is out of my range!
I also own a BMW 2002 that I’m restoring and Ginetta G15 that is in a thousand pieces! I generally love old cars, especially ones that are a bit unusual. I’ve had all sorts over the years, BMW e28s, a gold Mercedes W123 TE, a Honda Insight, and I’m just selling my Nissan Cube!
Thanks for having me in your forum.
Paul.

Re: New to the forum and rx7s!
Hi Paul,
I had a series 3 rx7 for years and used it as my daily driver, the steering is very heavy, there is very little room in the back seats (even for kids) and although I used to squeeze a BMX in the back with the seats down, it was a struggle. An old 12a really should be warmed up and cooled down before and after use, which makes it kind of impractical as a daily driver. However, I did do that for years and you get used to it. It’s really just the heavy steering at very low speeds, and the parking in tight spaces that mean it’s a bit of a pain as a daily. Oh, did I mention the weekly fuel bill? Other than that, old rotaries are just so much fun, maybe everyone should own one at least once in their driving lives. Good luck mate.

Re: New to the forum and rx7s!
Welcome to the forum aye. I daily drove mine for a month or two. The amount of money I was spending on fuel was crazy
. Then one day it got VERY cold and decided not to start
haha. Salt will demolish the body. Some of my mates occasionally sit in the back seats. You just need to get your feet under the seat and then spread your knees far apart (either side of the seat)
. Awesome fun cars though aye!
