Strange you never mentioned it smoking though.
I reckon you might have cracked a plate around the dowel.
Is it the same in both chambers?
Wires' 12a Turbo
Re: Wires' 12a Turbo
Yes it was from both chambers Tool, I think I did mention it was smoking when trying to start it, just not when it was running the last time.
So, the engine is out and has been split. Turns out it has a 13b plate in the middle, along with some oversized water seals that just were not doing their job correctly:
"they looked like something out of a window"
Once the engine was getting warm, they were probably sealing just enough, but upon cooling down they were letting water in as well as the oil from the control rings.
Plates and rotors are all fine though.
So bit of a strange one this, but onwards and upwards from here. Started tidying up the engine bay as the new engine will put it to shame.
More pics in time.

Re: Wires' 12a Turbo
Sounds like a real mess. I would be pissed.
What's the plan? 13B?

Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......
Re: Wires' 12a Turbo
Well it is what it is. Somewhere down the line the engine hasn't been treated very kindly, but whatever I think the history of the car is, doesn't mean that those people are actually at fault unless they turn up and say so. At least I know the car pretty well now and can move forward with a solid engine.
So onwards and upwards. Mick reckons it's all saveable, gonna create a proper seal, obviously replace all the usual suspects and get it looking as fresh as possible.

That does sound a bit sketchy aye. At least you've found the problem! It'll be nice to have a fresh build

How are you going to seal a FC plate to a 12A housing properly though?
Did you find the secondary injectors?
