Re: Sticky the Rally Car
Just read this thread and I am super impressed. For someone to say they are far of being a mechanic and put a car and thread together like this....i would say you are too modest as well! Top stuff and like the rest of us, look forward to seeing more progress and the finished product.

Get a Mallory pump and return style reg or even the carter black or gold best na pumps around..
My mates got a Mallory pump and 4309 rego and his makes 220 rwhp !
But why the need for twin pumps a single pump would be more than sufficient for your setup..
I got the Carter Gold pumps and a Mallory return reg........

OK,
time for a bit of an update, some of the things I have managed to get done whilst faffing around with rollcages and the like, what follows is in no particular order, just some things that I have managed to get done. One day it will all fall into place and get bolted together, in the meantime I concentrate on elements that will be required for the final assembly.
What I have learnt is that to do this correctly, you fabricate everything necessary on the bare shell, then strip, prep, paint and then assemble all components that have been preassembled and test fitted.
Live and learn eh !

Re: Sticky the Rally Car
Well to cut a long story very short, the rear axle had to come out and have new damper mounts fitted.
It was clear that the coilovers were going to foul. So out it came.

Whilst the axle was off being altered, I started to work on the dash and instruments.

Two attempts at the face plate and it was all ok.

Now some dials, warning lights, indicators etc.

Being a bit of a kid, I wanted to see how it looked fitted and of course to check clearance behind the gauges...

Moving on, it was the remaining gauges and switch panel next.

Once I had sourced all the gauges and switches, I set out the layout on the console.

It looks ok, so time to get painted......

Re: Sticky the Rally Car
I managed to source an air box to give me a cold air feed old skool style, so I thought I'd play around with the carb.

Only problem being that the manifold I had was the wrong configuration for the air box due to the location of the fuel inlet........

Nothing for it but to get a new inlet manifold from Australia, as they use the IDA the other way around from the guy's in the States.
Nice I hear you say, but the new manifold needs porting, as you can see from the size of the original gasket.

The manifold is with Pip for porting, hopefully he will get it back to me sometime soon ?
IN the meantime, I had the carb recon'd, and jolly nice it looks too....

I sourced some new quadrants for the throttle cable and so now I just need to make a throttle cable bracket and that's another thing off the very long build list !

Re: Sticky the Rally Car
Some of you know about this, some don't, so here goes:
Here we go then, been working on this for a while now.

First prototype, needs some work to tidy up, finish etc but it looks like it will work, and will allow me to obtain that magic 2.5 turns lock to lock.
Quite a bit of work was needed to get the mount with the correct clearance
Also, the prototype had some engineering issues (the bloke doing it kept messing it up....) so new fabricator and after some considerable time, Mk2 rack mount.

I rechecked all the clearances

A bit of powdercoat and fitted the rack, with some uprated inner tie rods and ball joints.

Now the connections. To give as much clearance as possible I have two lower arms, which will be supported by a rose joint, but loosely connected looks something like this :

I'm pleased with it so far, especially this bit.........

A full view:

Lower column mount fabricated.

I am just finishing the final part of fitting an MX5 steering column and fabricating all the joints etc, but I have managed to get the column in and it looks standard, which is what I was looking for. The final set up will feature a quick release steering wheel, for ease of access !
