Cleaning of cooling system

Am I being silly or did I read somewhere that someone used a dish washer tab to clean their system out. If so what were the results.

It was me over dinner at Bewdley I suggest one with lime scale removing abilities. It will have to be broken into pieces first or dissolved into water first. I put in cold & then let engine run for about 15 mins at least.
I recall reading a post that someone else does but uses 2,

I was thinking of doing a similar thing but with the thermostat out.

I've now fitted the new themostat and flushed out the system using dish washer tabs.

when I removed the housing it looked clean, as far as I know this is the first time this has been off.





I then added the 2 dish washer tabs one in the housing and one in the rad, refitted the housing ran and drove the car for about an hour with the themostat still our.




I then flushed the system out with clean water via the hose, fitted the new themostat and filled up with 50/50 Antifreeze ( blue btw Dave ) and De-ionised water.
The car has been run/driven for a couple of hours and all seems ok, as the road tax runs out the end of this month it will have to wait until next year for a full test.

Now to fit an electric fan in front of the rad as a back up.

beware that the tabs hold lots of salts..... flush the engine well.
Remove the bolt at bottom of middle iron to drain the tab bits/salts away.

believe me that you need more. the engine is a maze of water work channel and bottleneck holes.

Aluminium rotorhousing doesn't like the sodium hydroxide in the tabs.I am also would say flush the engine well.
Better take some liqui moly cooling system cleaner and take of the radiator flush it out seperately and clean and new colour the outside. Open the waterdrain screw under the oilfiller cap and flush the engine seperately too.
