TWiR has a new heart. Operation rerformed by Dr James and Dr Nik (all together now) ... Hi Doctor Nik! and assisted by Madame Le Jo on spanners and standby ambulance. Not all straightforward and a bit of a fight to the finish but ..... Ta dah

And there's quite a lot of connectors with no connection now that the rats nest of associated vacuum wizardry has gone so this will need tidying.

To be fair, James did most of the manly wrangling stuff. I just stood around and pointed out minor trivial irritations such as "that engine's back to front"

I should point out that the engine had come from the back of the 323 oriented in that fashion and that it was not in the engine bay back to front

Nonetheless, you deserve credit for your observational skills W(p

Finally got the starter motor in properly after much messing about. The shorter bolt did not want to play at all and took a lot of effort to get it on properly. Same story with the nut on the end of the long bolt. Very strange.

I've got the wiring sorted but I do need some pics to show how the loom is routed from the bottom left side then across the top of the motor. I've plugged the oil pressure and water temp in but can't remember how the loom was placed. It's all looking a bit different now that the rats nest is gone.

Next job is new fuel hoses for the carb. I've just ordered another as I thought they were both the same size. Turns out they're not. One is 6mm ID, the other is 8mm ID. OMG, all this learning! Anyway, while I'm waiting, I thought a spot of coloring in would be a giggle

Y'see, I knew you weren't listening the other day when we put the engine in. Like, when I mentioned your nice new fuel lines and said "you did get the right sizes, didn't you?"

*sigh* :(

LOL I already knew the size wasn't right. I must have measured off the smaller of the two. I did manage to get the smaller ID to fit the larger pipe but I wasn't keen on leaving it like that. Don't want to be messing with fuel. Fuel leak vs hot rotary exhaust = f-f

A few bits have arrived over the last few days so the fuel hose issue is now sorted and all the coolant hoses are in and just waiting for the rad. The nice silicon flexi hoses won't hug the firewall like the moulded OEM items but it's a small price to pay. Unlike the huge price to source the originals for the beehive plunbing system.

Finally get to use my new OEM radiator hoses. May have to get a pair in blue silicon at some stage though.

Still trying to sort the horn wiring out and when that's done, it's upgrade time ;)

Well ... Startup Saturday has been postponed until Sunday. Here's TWiR looking all poised for action

Fecked about trying to attach the headers for ages until brilliantly enlisting some assistance :)

My plan was to turn the motor over and get an oil pressure reading before I fired her up for real. After about a minute there was no reading so I checked a few things and tried again ... no movement on the gauge at all :o However, consultation has revealed that I'm unlikely to see an oil pressure reading at cranking speed anyway. So I shall recharge my poor old battery and go for it tomorrow. Got a new one ordered but I'll squeeze more life out of the old one yet.

Engine at the ready ... airbox for added authenticity
