Starter motor

Post by Threesevens »

Hi, My 1985 elford turbo has a non-functioning starter motor. The model that is currently on the car is a Lucas LRS501. Are there any other options that will work? Thanks Kevin

Take it to your local Alternator/Starter motor re-build unit, my local one charges about £70 for a full re-build, my local unit is called AlterStart! I do not know if it is a Franchise but there must be a equivalent near you. Is the faulty one a replacement?

are all the wires to it still in situ? There's a small wire which is the trigger wire that is very fragile and often breaks on these cars... if the starter is still on the car but dead, that would be the first thing to check

Yes, check all the connectors at the starter first of all. There's a push - on spade connector.

Starter motor

Hi , Still trying to find a solution for my starter motor. Does anyone know if the solenoid is sold separately as I believe it is this component that is faulty?
Thanks

You can just get to the small connectors by lying down at the back of the N/S front wheel. (Rock car onto right lock if you can).

Give 'em a dose of WD40

there are 2 wires going to the starter ( a positive supply from the battery and a small trigger wire) and 1 coming off it which is the wire you can see in this photo...this wire isn't necessary for the starter to work

The main positve feed from the battery goes the the nut that you can see on the left side of the solenoid... this doesn't give problems usually. The one that usually gives the trouble is the small wire going to the spade connector.... this is the trigger wire. They are reachable from under the car as Dave says and they should be the first things to check before swapping a starter motor.
