Headlight washer

Post by knight_rx7 »

Cheers lads!!!!

It has come to my attention that several of the Europe FBs have a headlight washer.

Where does the switch for goes??? Is it an easy instalation to make it fully functional?

I'd like to get a pair of these, even only for decoration porposes. I love how it looks...

Hey, Luis. The washer bottle is a massive great plastic thing that lives in front of the right front wheel. Rather like this;

I recently stripped mine out because it was basically just a big ballast tank! The motors are in the way of all the crap thrown off the road and they rarely work in my experience. In fact, mine never did so I'm not even sure how it should be actuated. I think the "Headlight Valet" switch makes it squirt when you push it into the forward momentary position IIRC. Off the car you end up with this;

Not the prettiest of things, lol. Not easy to remove, either. Half the bolts are inaccesible without removing sidelights or whatever, and getting the actual tank out is like fitting a whole chicken through a Hoover pipe :shock:

Yeah mine never worked either, so i ripped it out like old mate here^ and filled in the holes on the bumper. And yeah i can only assume they come on with the headlight opener button somehow. I briefly toyed with the idea of using it as a water/meth tank or intercooler mist, but its in a prick of a spot to fill and like lucky said its just unwanted ballast at the most forward extremity of the car.
But dont let that put you off - id love to see a functioning headlight washer on one of these things!! And I'd bet half the owners on here have their old washer systems sitting in a pile of spare parts in the corner of their garage so shouldn't be too hard to source the bits.

I like them too and they are easy to repair, it's the motor that seizes up.....

Thanks for the answer guys!!!

Hum...........I guess for the moment I'll cope with the idea of just installing the water nozzles in the bumper. Too much to restore to add something in the list.

Are those easy to get new? or like new? I'm almost 100% positive that they were never included in the US versions.

Hi all, my 1982 S2 , Australian delivered , has headlight washers too, will have to see if they still work, I reckon that they always used to work, not sure of the control switch though, but will check it out and let you know
