Tried some fuel down the carb but it still wont start, also listened out for the fuel pump and it definately sounds like it is running. Im guessing a new starter is my next port of call, anyone else have any other ideas? Cheers
Im not sure what you mean..the starter is hit and miss whether it is cranking the engine at all. Sometimes it just whurrs. When it does crank it seems relatively slow. Cheers
the first thing to do is get the starter replaced or fixed...... you'll never start a rotary if it's only turning over slow..... all it will do is pump fuel into the engine and flood it and then it'll take some starting.
Once the starter is fixed and the engine flies over, lift the base of the rear seat and unplug the fuel pump ( you'll see the connector) If you don't do this, it'll just keep pumping fuel into the carb/engine and flooding it. Next remove the spark plugs, remember to label up where each lead goes if you're not familiar with these engines. If they are wet, then it's more than likely flooded. Rest one of the spark plugs, still connected to the ht lead on the top of the engine touching an iron part and crank the engine over on the starter.... check to see if that spark plug is sparking.
The engine will spin over really fast without the plugs in and will blow any excess fuel out of the plug holes.
I usually warm up the plugs with a heatgun or blowlamp...... this will dry them out and then put them back in the engine. Connect up the ht leads, plug the fuel pump back in and then pull the choke out fully. Don't press or touch the throttle, just use the choke and then turn the engine over on the key. After a bit of spinning it should fire up. if it doesn't and you know that you have a spark then the next suspect would be the fuel system and you'll need to work through it an element at a time to identify the issue but do the above first.

Haha best you don't hold your breath for me, you'll die
I haven't changed the starter yet, I have however had the sills and all those nasty holes fixed up. Cost me a pretty penny (£800!) but everything has been done properly (inner sill supports aswell) and to an excellent standard. So it's ready to get an MOT once I can get it going!
Now the starter.. Any advice about changing this? is it a simple bolt off bolt on? Also where do you guys put the axle stands to work on the engine from underneath?
