Hello,
I apologize in advance but I could not find info on this. ( Im terrible with search )

I am confused as to which is the temperature switch and sensor. I have an 84 GSL ( American Modle, not sure if theres differences ) that is mostly stock.
I know there are 3 sensors:
(1) on the top of the radiator, which I beleive is the coolant level
(2) on the bottom of the radiator, this is unplugged
(3) on the water pump housing, wires are cut
My temp gauge is working (atleast it looks that way)

So my questions are....
 Missing any sensor?
 Which is the temp switch?
 Which is the temp sensor?
and where do they plug into?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
 Jon

Re: Confused on temperature sensor/switch
Hi Jon,
you're right about the coolant level sensor on top of the rad.... that's all that one does. the one in the water pump housing controls the auto return on the choke..... once the engine is up to temperature, the choke should return by itself. The temperature sender for the temp gauge in the dash is underneath the oil sender on the side of the engine ( same side as your brake and clutch master cylinders) On the UK models, this has a single yellow wire going to it.... probably the same on yours. Is the one in the bottom of the rad just disconnected or is the hole in the rad plugged?

Re: Confused on temperature sensor/switch
Ok, I figured I was missing one since my guage is working, but as far as the one behind the water pump where does it plug into? the other cut end is no where to be found and there a a couple of plugs around there so I do not know which one it goes to. The one on the rad is there its just unplugged, and I dont see where it plugs into.
Also, where can I purchase the one behind the water pump? all the temp sensors I have seen dont look anything like the one that I have on the car.

Re: Confused on temperature sensor/switch
My S3 (12AT) radiator has a plug in the bottom left corner.
I assumed it was for a thermo fan but obviously they don't come with them from the factory. Additional input?
I don't recall if it was plugged in.

Back in the UK for the summer, maybe longer......

stateside cars I believe were wired:bottom radiator-hot start; water pump housing-choke; next to oil pressure sender-gauge. harness locations: guage and choke thermo sensor is wired through the engine harness that (on a series 3) is routed through passenger side firewall pass through; sensor in radiator is routed through body harness and links up with the hot/cold start relay. gauge sensor is only single wire out of the 3
