hi all
i just bought my first rx-7 a year ago and what started out as a litlle fix up ended up in a total restoration
A lot has changed since i bought it a year ago but i´ll start with the beginning.
When i bought the car it was in terrible shape the paint was all messed up since it had been stored in a room where the previous owner spraypainted his cars

, so on the paint where all sorts of colours and mostly thick primer. The car was also heavily rusted at the rear jacking points and in the rear wheel arches where the suspension arm is mounted to the body. the engine fired up pretty much from the first try so that´s good, but i am thinking of buying a second one and take it apart so i can try to do some porting on it an see how that would react with the turbo set up :d.
I have to mention that it isn´t an original elford turbo but i bought the kit after i bought the car. Any way when i got it home i started to take the car apart altought this wasn´t the original plan. But i figured i might as well do the entire thing when i´m at it

. i also cut out the rust on welded in some new metal on the rusted area´s ( lot of work there ). The car also had a couple of dents so pulled them out as well as i could and filled it with bodyfiller. after that a lot of sanding

. I also scraped the bottom of the car and put a fresh coat of bitumen on it. After getting rid of all the rust ofcourse

. every suspension part and the entire drivetrain was brought to the sandblaster, the smaller things like bits in the engine comparment i´m gonna sandblast myself. Next i sanded the entire car to the first original primer coat and since this was still good i started from there to paint the car. original colour was black and i did painted it black again but not the original. It was the first time i painted an entire car so i was destined to run into some problems

. first one was i painted in my garage so there´s a lot of dust in the clear and i have one or 2 runners in the clear. Luckily a friend of mine is a buffer at a local bodyshop and he can help me out with sanding the clear and buffing it

. the parts that were sandblasted all got a coat of black paint on it, only some of the things are gonna be painted gold or copper. All the suspension rubbers where replaced by poly ones and the original springs are replaced by a set of new lowered ones, altought they didn´t do much lowering :p. Then the whole suspension was put back under the car. I also got the rims repaired by a friend of mine and podwercoated so there like new. It aren´t the original rims but i like em so i Think i´m gonna keep them

. I gave the engine a clean up and put it back in only to notice that i should have marked the pulley on the crankshaft because it fits in four differnt positions

. I just started to put the elford kit on it and this fits perfectly

.
But there´s still lots to be done

, i still have to took a look at the calipers because these where stuck. waiting on the radiator te be fixed, also need to get the seperate oil cooler and oil lines and some other stuff
well thats pretty much i don´t really have a lot of pictures but i´ll try to put up as much as possible
here´s the beginning :
