It's a breaker

Post by ian65 » Sun Feb 04, 2018 5:48 pm

Bought a series 5 Turbo II cabriolet last month. It had been taken off the road by the previous keeper just after he'd paid for a £1600 engine rebuild at Hurleys and the hood ripped and it never went back on the road. He was moving house and needed it gone within the week so put it up for sale.
He'd had a lot of engine work done at Hurleys including new apex seals and a huge Greddy intercooler and the car had a lot of uprated parts on it.

got it into the garage...

put a battery on it and got the roof to fold down out of the way...

The interior is in great condition right down to the factory overmats.

Next job was to get it up on the ramp. These convertible FC's can rust like crazy if the roof leaks and this one had big holes in each side of the roof. The last one of these TII's I took apart looked like it had been dragged out of the sea it had so much rust in the floors.
This car though is actually very solid with only a bit of welding needed to the rear of each sill at the base of the B posts.
The floors are ok. The front wings have gone on their lower edges but are easy bolt off / bolt on replacements so probably not even worth trying to repair these. The inner wings are ok.

This car has got a ton of history with it..... every mot from new, loads of old tax discs, all the handbooks with FSH and loads of receipts....

Image

All this maintenance definitely helped when taking parts off the car.... nearly all the bolts had copper-slip on them which really helped get them undone.

I'm other news I've stripped all the brakes off the car... they will need to come off to be rebuilt so I've taken them off to make it easier to push the car in and out of the garage...

After much struggling it was on the car...

Next up I put the slave on.... again all the intercooler ductwork gets in the way and a section had to be taken off but got the slave cylinder on...

Then put the I/C duct back on...

Following my stunt driving when putting the car away I figured it was probably time to rebuild the brakes.... split the front calipers...

Image

Cleaned up the pistons...

Image

installed the new seals, pistons, dust seals and painted and reassembled them...

Image

then did the same with the rear calipers...

Image

Image

New front and rear pads ready to go in...

Image

Put the front calipers back on the car and the pads in...

It's a breaker

After crunching the numbers this weekend it's apparent that this car isn't going to be economical to put back on the road so it's going to be stripped..... I'll put up a thread of parts with prices in case anyone on this forum is interested in any of them.... the engine is sweet, starts on the button hot and cold and has low miles on its rebuild....Interior is mint.
Most parts will be available except the seats and I'll ship them worldwide at the buyers expense.
