RX7s in Competition

Post by MelloYello » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:24 am

In my search for anything RX7 and TWR related I have come across a few photos of cars in action. My favourites are of Win Percy's TWR BTCC cars, winning the championship in '80 and '81. Thirty years ago and still looking good! If anyone has any other period photos please add them.

Mazda RX-7 Mk1 - 1979 Birmingham University November Rally

Mazda RX-7 - 1979 Birmingham University Rally - Robert Grounds & Peter Joel. Finished 14th.

This car, AHP 71S, was the earliest known 1st gen RX7 in the UK, imported by BL from the US for evaluation against the TR7, before the Rx7 was released in the UK.

The 'Unknown' UK Rally car that was sponsored by Rolletts of Rotherham.......Rolletts was a small Mazda garage on Rawmarsh Hill that I visited many times.
The son was Steve Rollett, I wonder if he was the driver.

Sadly the proprietor (a relative of Steve) died young around 1987/8, just as Mazda were putting the squeeze on the smaller dealers.
The premises is a car wash or something like that now.

Memories......

Not an RX7 but thought you might enjoy these. 20B RX8 racing at 24 hours of Spa in 2010.

It caught fire towards the end of the race. Got pics of that somewhere too.

That car is FKJ 419V driven by Terry Wilson at the time. The car is in you register as an early press car. It was actually ran as a works rally car in it's early years and is now in Ireland.

Ah, good, that ties the Rollett sponsored car to a Reg Plate.
I knew 419V was now in Ireland (Kerry?) but didn't know it was that one.

Thanks for that.
