The next time you strip it down or if it gets any worse I’d clean the threads up with brake cleaner then put it back together with liquid ptfe, I use the loctite stuff which is really good and will seal any gaps through the threads or past the washers.

:D Another MOT passed today with no advisories yay

I wasn't expecting any issues, but I haven't had much time this year to do as much work under the car as I would have liked, so just hoping all was OK underneath.

The MOT tester commented favourably on the overall condition of the car (for its age) and did point out a couple of (non-MOT) items to keep an eye on, which was very helpful.

Phew! Waiting in the the reception area whilst the test was taking place felt worse than waiting for major dental work :lol:

Gents,

Never use PTFE tape, it can get in the oilways and cause blockages. And we all know what can happen then.

Like Ian said, I used Loctite 577 thread sealer on the rally car fuel and oil lines. Where I hadn't used it I had a few small leaks, once cleaned and refitted with the Loctite it completely sealed the joints.

Not cheap, but how much is your engine worth ?

Thanks for that info. Luckily, no oil is leaking now, but I'll certainly be sure to use some of that stuff if I have to seal any oil or fuel lines in future!

One question, when the oil cooler was refurbed, did you have the threaded bosses on the cooler replaced ? On the Elford I had the spigots replaced. They can have undetectable cracks which leak under pressure and further tightening the oil hoses just makes the matter worse. merlin motorsport sell the threaded bosses, they just need tig welding on and the rad pressure tested. That will cure the leak once and for all. Just don’t overtighten the fittings.

I reused the existing threaded bosses, not expecting them to be an issue. As it turns out, all seems OK now that I've nipped the top connector up. I was very wary of over-tightening, so probably under-tightened it to start, so the copper washer hadn't crushed enough to make a seal. All seems OK now (fingers crossed!)
