Electric fan
Electric fan
I'm going to fit a fan in front of the rad to use as a back up when needed. I want to be able to switch it on and off from inside the car, therefore I'm looking for a switch to use. On our later series 3 cars we have an A/C switch inside the fan speed control for the heater blower, has anyone tried to use this switch, as I do not want to have to add a new nonstandard switch and all the other switches are already being used, or does it not have any terminals behind it.
I know I could take the panel out and look but I know some of you have removed panel so thought I would ask on here first.

Re: Electric fan
you can use the a/c switch Dibs and you don't need to strip the panel out. The S3 fan and combined a/c switch looks like this...

if you pull your radio out, you should be able to see this single wire hanging loose and connect onto it..... I checked this switch with a multimeter and thought it switches the +12v to the a/c...... but perhaps not, ..... check it in the car..... either way, you should be able to switch a relay with it.

Re: Electric fan
Thanks Ian, That's the answer I was hoping for. I tried to take the panel off tonight but had to stop when I could not get the radio out, I'll now try again tomorrow.

Re: Electric fan
I'm not sure that's right, I have used the ac switch and I think (not 100% sure) that it switches the neg. It also only works if the heater blower is on. I will double check my wiring for you.

Re: Electric fan
Checked mine today and its the blue wire with green tracer that is a switched neg from the push button, it does only work if the fan speed switch it on 1 2 or 3.
The single wires from the switch are for illumination.

Thanks for the info Keith, think I'll go for a new switch then, just got to work out where to put it.
