Re: starter motor
Hi Ian,
Got the starter motor thanks.
I am going to try and get underneath and have a look at the solenoid connections.
Thanks

Re: starter motor
Look mainly at that spade connector sticking out from the solenoid.
The trailing lead has fooled us in the past. It's actually a 12 volt output lead via a thermal link, not an incoming feed or control wire. Mazda seemed to want to pick up a 12volt supply from under the car and chose this point.

Tried to get under the car to have a look at the connectors but i just couldn't see clearly enough. You must a contortionist if you can!!!
Will have to get myself a trolley jack and some stands.

Re: starter motor
Yes, maybe I did use the sill jack.....I had to sort this once years ago in the wife's school car park. I was still a fat little buggxr even then.......

Re: starter motor
My starter died yesterday, I came to use the car in the morning, turned the key and nothing happened, so I got in my golf and went to work. I came home and my dad had taken the the starter off, cleaned up the connections and re fitted the starter. It worked sometimes, but got worse. If I held the key and my dad thumped the solenoid with a jack handle the starter kicked into life, but its a bit inconvenient
I need a new solenoid, or somewhere that refurbishes or a recon exchange service, can anyone point me in the right direction?
Cheers

Re: starter motor
Chaps,
Was there any difference between starter motors for S1, S2 & S3?
I would think not, but am interested to be sure.

Re: starter motor
S2 is definitely different to S3...... I've had them side by side... I can't say for sure that they aren't interchangeable but they certainly look different.
